Hello I am looking for the parents or mainly the roberts linage of William Seth roberts born in or around 1823 in llanarmon . Not sure which llanarmon but I think it could be llanarmon yn lal ...
His grandmother  could be Catherine as she is in the 1841 census with William Seth aged 90 .

hi all ..
I am looking for a ancestor ( Roberts) who left wales for the usa , apparently this ancestor had a child with a slave woman in Mississippi 1850  .. dna matched my family with the slave woman's child ( Louis hall ) and I am now in contact with his descendants .
I have looked at passenger records and looked at nearly everyone in my roberts tree and I can account for most people through the censuses . I am not having much luck as Roberts is quite a common name.
so I have not got a clue when my ancestor left or maybe come back to wales ,I have no dates for him..
I am thinking it could be a gggreat uncle that I have not found yet maybe, its like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
so maybe finding out more about Louis in Mississippi , may help me connect our two family's.

what records in Mississippi would be of help to me .

no one knows why the surnames are different either as there is Roberts and hall, could this be from the slave owner..
I have followed Louis hall through the censuses and that's all I can think of .
hope someone can point me in the right direction please .

ask away if this is a bit confusing .

thank you

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / mrca
« on: Thursday 30 May 13 00:02 BST (UK)  »
hello
my closest mrca is of 6 generations on the matches on my ancestry .com.
I have been in contact by email with the descendant of my closest mrca and as a guess we think one of my ancestors went to the usa and had a child with a slave woman to whom the person I have been in contact with descends from.
I am also his closest match a mrca of 6 generations, but then just recently he had a closer match than me a mrca of 5 generations.
I also had the same match with this person but its not a close match to me as its 15 mrca.

I am very interested in dna but find it hard to understand all the percentages and explanations that come with it.
so could someone please explain to me in simple terms how is this new match to me of 15 mrca in relation to my other match of 6 mrca.
i.e.  is the 15 mrca match many many many descendants cousins down the same tree line from my other match of 6 mrca..
his new match  his  mrca 5th generation  are close matches together and maybe son and father are they ?  but for me to be so far away would mean im a very distant relative are they like great great uncles cousins etc. descended from there 5 and 6 generations away. or when it does say 15 mrca does that mean we shared a common ancestor as in my 15 x grandfather and its nothing to do with great great uncle's cousins etc. from a 5 mrca
im confused now.

United States of America / can anyone help me connect our familys together
« on: Tuesday 28 May 13 21:43 BST (UK)  »
hello

I am looking for more information on Lewis /Louis hall so I can go back further and then connect his family with mine.
it is said by his family that Lewis/Louis hall was born in 1840 or 1850 in Mississippi his mother was a slave woman.
from dna results on ancestry.com we have come to the conclusion that his father or his father is said to be a ancestor of mine from wales ,but at the moment I don't have a clue who he might of been.
I do have a paper tree that goes back to the 1750s in wales so I hoping I can find my ancestor who went to America and had a child with a slave woman his surname would of been Roberts.

from the census information, from 1880 to 1920 it always gives Lewis place off birth as Mississippi but his age is different on a few sources his death cert gives him being born in 1840 approx. and also the 1920 census, all other census give his birth approx. in 1850.
the place of birth for mother and father vary, his mother birthplace Tennessee or Mississippi. the fathers birthplace is either unknown or Mississippi or the 1910 census gives it as Virginia.
Lewis first wife was a amand Allen, think they married in 1870/1/2 she was born in Texas 1855 her mother and father were from Alabama.
the only other information I have is Lewis was looked after by a Jane Benton  as a child. I think they moved to a new farming community in the early 1880, Texas Germany. Lewis was in his 20s. Jane Benton was then widowed but then married and became Jane  Burt they became a  pillar of the black community.
Jane Benton was born in Tennessee approx. 1834 ( 1880 census) her eldest child born in 1860 in Mississippi.
I would love to know as much as I can about Lewis like where in Mississippi was he from and where did the name Hall come from was it his owners name and where do my Roberts ancestors come into this or any other information would be great.
