Lancashire / Church ministers named Carter
« on: Thursday 04 February 10 14:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Within Lancashire records is there a list of Church ministers who  may have lived in Royton Lancashire and officiated at the local churches there, probably Baptist. All I have at present is that he had a son Michael who was in the army in Suffolk in 1947! This is a long shot but maybe yield something to work on.

Armed Forces / RAF Service Record, I'm Stuck!
« on: Monday 26 October 09 10:54 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to get to the bottom of a Squadron Leader's Service  Record but am stuck!
The guy was with 17 Squadron from August 1929 until about 1934. During this period he had some attached duties at Biggin Hill and Hendon which I am able to find out about but there is this statement HAD@ so my question is where was that? Generally the @ means attached duties I am aware of this. He skill at this time was that of a carpenter rigger.

Any Suggestions Please

Armed Forces / RAF General Service Medal confusion!
« on: Wednesday 07 October 09 19:11 BST (UK)  »
I have a Squadron Leaders sevice record and also a set of dress medals, now my query is that he was awarded the GSM w/c Palestine Annual Filming Feb 1944
but there is no mention on his service record that he was there other than in the miscellaneous section.
The medal in the dress set in fact has the Queen's head on it but he has a clasp for Cyprus for 1955,
So my question is did he have a GSM with the King's head on originally and that was returned when he was awarded the clasp?
Thanks

Europe / German gone missing after 1914
« on: Friday 27 March 09 20:07 GMT (UK)  »
The gentleman in question was born in Germany in the mid 1850s and came over to England about 1873 and married an English lady about 1881, they can both be found on the census returns and he was on the rate book in April 1914 where he resided but then he disappears. His wife turns up again in 1947 aged 89! He (or his wife) doesn't seem to be registered on any ships leaving the UK.

My question is what happened to foreign nationals at the outbreak of the First World War? Were they interred somewhere for their safety and British security? If so, are there any records of where they may have been sent?
Any pointers would be appreciated
Thanks

Durham Lookup Requests / Elsie Mildred Fleetham
« on: Wednesday 25 March 09 09:24 GMT (UK)  »
Elsie Mildred Fleetham was born in Darlington on the 7 Nov 1895 and according to the 1901 census was  living in Zetland Street, Darlington which was in the parish of St Paul.

If possible please, would some kind person have a look at the parish records to see if her father's name is listed, her mother was Elizabeth Fleetham so the name of the father may not be entered! Elizabeth's father wouldn't allow her to marry the father of the child.
Thanks in anticipation

Occupation Interests / Wesleyan Clergy
« on: Sunday 04 May 08 17:52 BST (UK)  »
How does one set about finding names of Wesley Clergy?

I have Thomas Nevin who was thought to be a son of a vicar, I have checked the C of E Parish Registers for Bawdsey in Suffolk at the local Suffolk Records Office but  cannot find anyone of that name at around 1912/13 in them.

I note from a Kelly's Directory of Suffolk 1912 that a Wesleyan Chapel had been built in Bawdsey Suffolk in 1886 and thought maybe he was involved with that.

Thomas fathered a child outside wedlock and his father paid for the child's upkeep, the child was my aunt.
Thanks Terry

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Death of George Saunders/Sanders
« on: Tuesday 01 April 08 19:53 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grandfather was born 18 September 1846 in Aylebeare Devon.
He married Harriet Goss at Hythe in the Parish of Fawley on 23 July 1866, as far as I know they had 2 sons Thomas George born 1867 & Frederick born 1870. Harriet remarried in 1875 on the I of W and stated that she was a widow.

I have all the certification of the life events and census records bar one, namely the death/burial of George, I have tried both Sanders and Saunders spelling as there has been much confusion with regards to his surname.

I cannot find any trace of George on the 1871 census but have found Harriet living with a brother and family in Southampton.

George had been living in the Southampton area since 1850

Any help would be appreciated
