 :)  Hello Rootschatters,

Long time, no post from me.  It seems full time study, part time work, full time Mum-ing and part time Scout leading does not lend itself to family tree sleuthing.

I hope you are all well and looking forward to some nicer weather over the festive season.  8)

I am starting my family tree hunt off with someone I am not even remotely related to, but who I see when I drive through Waikumete - Matilda / Mathilde Studer https://archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=23815422

On her headstone is just says 'Mathilde Studer 1906 - 1962  R.I.P".  On Archway she is listed as Matilda Studer, but right year of death.  Seems sad that she was no one's daughter, sister, mother or aunt.  I just found her on the cemetery search. https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/cemeteries/Pages/RecordDetails.aspx?recordId=C71C60F1311C0BEE3C1ACC6C69ECB475 So I guess she was Catholic.

She is my curiosity case at the moment... any of you seasoned sleuthers able to shed some light?

Lanarkshire / Mitchell Library Glasgow Police records please
« on: Thursday 21 July 16 10:31 BST (UK)  »
Kia ora from New Zealand!

Would it be possible for someone to do a look up for me at Mitchell Library?

My Grandaunt Annie was born in 1894 in King Edward, Aberdeenshire.  Her biological father is listed as being George Milne, a Constable in the Glasgow Police Force. Her mother's name was Mary Urquhart.  At the time of her birth she had her mother's maiden name as her surname:

Annie Georgina Lyon Milne Urquhart

When Mary married William Jamieson, Annie took his last name.

We have been talking about it on the  New Zealand Board http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=752419.0, as I had no information about Annie, so didn't know where to start in Scotland.

The wonderful Millmoor/ William can't find a record of a Constable George Milne - can any of you help?

Many thanks

KG

New Zealand Completed Requests / Lost twig in Scotland, well lost Middlemiss
« on: Tuesday 19 July 16 13:17 BST (UK)  »
Firstly - Hi again!  From wandering around in the 'real world' I have returned to where most of my worthwhile leads come from  ;D

Secondly - I know you will be thinking "why isn't she posting on the Scotland page?"

Good point, but I know you guys will have pointers and hints about how I can get the best results when I do post there.

So.... Mary Urqhart (b.1873) and William Jamieson (b. 1868) married in 1897 and had at least 10 Children, over in Scotland,  William dies in 1915 and Mary and 7 of her children moved to NZ - in stages, not en masse.

Mary's death notice reads as follows:

NEWSPAPER/DEATHS: JAMIESON - On November 12, 1947 at Dunedin, Mary Jamieson, loved mother of Stan, Jim, Ian (Dunedin), Walter (Wellington), Mrs J Smallman (Dunedin), Mrs R Beissel (Ravensbourne), Mrs L Jones (Mosgiel), Mrs G Coppell (New Plymouth) and Mrs A Middlemiss (Scotland); in her seventy-fifth year. At rest. Private cremation. Hope & Kingston, Funeral Directors. ['Otago Daily Times', Friday, 14 November 1947, p1a]

I have Ann Jamieson as one of the children that didn't come to NZ.  I have failed miserably on Family Search and Genuki to find who she married or what had become of her.  At the time of William's death the family were living in Edinburgh.  Ann must have married an Albert, Allan or Arthur type name as all the girls are listed under their husband's initial.

If you were trying to solve this puzzle, what would you do?  Inspiration needed!

The Henderson RSA is appealing for Baillie family descendants to come forward to approve the installation of a memorial plaque for an unmarked grave. Any Chatters have the Baillies in their tree?

New Zealand Completed Requests / Anyone have "Gwendolene Mabel Stevens" in their tree?
« on: Wednesday 01 January 14 18:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

The Gisborne Herald ran an article when the grave of a 3 year old girl who died in 1912 of pneumonia when her family were living at Hauturu Station, Mata Lane, Tokomaru Bay.  Her father was Robert James Stevens and her mother was 'Hazel'.

Forrestry workers found the grave and wondered if there was any family left.

Hope you are all well and that 2014 knocks over some brick walls

I'm trying to work out if this is the Mum or the Daughter.  So if I can narrow down the year I can take a better guess  :)
