Buckinghamshire / Frank Luker
« on: Friday 20 October 23 09:32 BST (UK)  »
Please can anyone help me to find out what happened to Frank.
He was born on 3/3/1870 in St. Clears, Carmathenshire. His parents were William and Belinda Luker.
His parents died within days of each other in Lillingstone Dayrell, Buckinghamshire. A photo of their grave can be found online, no mention of Frank. William's father, John Luker (my great grandfather) registered both deaths. Their daughter, Annie, had died 6yrs earlier. The eldest son, Frederick went to boarding school in Godalming, and the two younger boys went to live with two of William's siblings in Battersea. I have been able to follow all three through to their deaths. Frank appears on the 1871 census with the rest of the family.
I have checked out a death for a Frank Luker in 1873 in Chertsey. His father's name was George so not the Frank that I am looking for.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Devon / Bovisand Lane, Down Thomas, Plymouth

I am looking for previous occupants of my cottage. I think it was built in the 1800's but possibly earlier. I don't know any names of previous owners or of anyone in the surrounding cottages. I can search Ancestry but don't know how to begin without a name so that I can search the census returns. Please can anyone give me a 'starter'.
Thank you.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Rebecca Mews born in Sopley
« on: Tuesday 01 March 22 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the parents and possibly siblings of Rebecca Mews. The details that I have are that she was born in Sopley in 1758 and she married Benjamin Vivian on 19/10/1779 in Sopley. Benjamin also seems to have been born in Sopley on 1/12/1751. He was the son of Joseph Vivian and Mary Mentren. These two could also have been born in Sopley and information on them would also be of interest.
I believe that 'The Genealogist' has details of Sopley BMD I haven't found details else where.
Help and ideas of where to look would be gratefully appreciated.

Somerset / Harriet Elizabeth Luker

Can anyone help with the date of my Aunt's death?
She was my father's half sister born on 18th Sept 1876 in Boscombe, Bournemouth. I never met her and my father never mentioned her. She was from my grandfather's 1st marriage. Her mother died when she was 9 and there were no siblings.
I have just found her with Occupation - 'Under Matron' at a small boarding school in Weston Super Mare on the 1921 census. The school was Etonhurst which no longer exists. I have searched the 1939 register but haven't found a suitable person. I have many letters written by my father to my mother during the 1940's and there is no mention of her. I feel sure that if she had gone abroad there would have been some mention of this as he talked about the rest of his family. I am the only one left in this branch so there is no one to ask.
All suggestions gratefully received. I have posted in Somerset as this is her last known address.

Gloucestershire / George James Luker
« on: Monday 01 February 21 17:09 GMT (UK)  »
George James' baptism was registered in Lower Swell to parents Richard and Ann Luker. He also has a brother Charles Richard registered in 1855. The rest of the siblings were registered in Windsor/Clewer.
This baptism listing is the only place where I can find George James - he has a brother George Alfred born in 1869.
He doesn't appear on the 1861 census so I can only presume that he died between 1853 and 1861 but I can't find a suitable listing for a death. Can anyone help please?

South Africa / Warwick Albert Dicker
« on: Thursday 22 October 20 17:25 BST (UK)  »
Warwick is my 1st cousin twice removed. He was born in Exeter, Devon in 1871, the eldest son of Henry John Dicker and Emily Ann Tapper. I have recently discovered that he married Violet Elia Taylor in Durban on 19th Sept 1908.
Please can anyone help me fill in the gaps as to whether or not they had any children and when did Warwick and Violet died. Warwick came from a very musical family and other relatives had gone out to South Africa before so I wonder if he went out there at a relative's invitation.
Any information will be very gratefully received.

Warwickshire / Nelson Street Birmingham
« on: Tuesday 05 May 20 14:08 BST (UK)  »
I would like to find out who was living in Nelson Street in 1829. An ancestor died here. She was 15 and her brother was 6. They had been orphaned in 1826 so I would love to try to find out who they could have been living with. I believe their previous home to have been in Kenyon Street. Their surname was Kendall and their mother's maiden name was Trever.
Has anyone got any bright ideas for me please?

Warwickshire / John Kendall
« on: Monday 27 January 20 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
An ancestor in my tree is John Kendall. He married Caroline Doley on 11th Dec 1842. On this certificate he gives the occupation of his father as a Gold Beater. My possible brick wall is who is his father? I have a strong suspicion that his parents are John Kendall (a gold beater) and Mary Trever but their son was baptised as John Trever Kendall on 19/04/1824 (born 29/07/1823). The parents both appear to have died in 1826 and a sister, Phebe, in 1829. I can't find any further evidence of John Trever Kendall until he possibly becomes just John Kendall on the 1841 census and I am fairly sure that this is the John Kendall who married Caroline Doley. So, are these one and the same person? One could argue that there is a slight discrepancy in age but as he was left without parents at the age of 3 this could be understandable. Is there any way of finding out what happened to John Trever Kendall after his parents died? I haven't been able to locate Kendall grandparents but Mary's parents were William and Jane Trever.
Has anyone any ideas? All suggestions gratefully received!!

Devon / Samuel Vinnicombe 1745
« on: Thursday 15 March 18 19:54 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with finding the parents and siblings of Samuel. I believe that he was born around 1745 in Exeter. He married Mary Pewtner in Exeter on 20/01/1776. He died on 20/07/1784. I can only find one child born to Samuel and Mary, a son, John Pewtner Vinnicombe. He was born in Exeter in 1779.
Any leads to help would be marvellous and I would be most grateful.
