Caernarvonshire / 1861 Owen Hughes Llanllechid
« on: Tuesday 26 March 24 19:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!

Probably staring at me in plain sight, but I can’t find this family in 1861 census. I’ve got father Owen as a widower, with John and Ellin in 1871 in Mill Street, Llanllechid. I believe I also have son Owen’s burial record, address Mill Street, Llanllechid in 1862. But can’t find Owen Hughes 1811 anywhere in 1861 census.

1851 Llanllechid
Owen Hughes 39 head Quarryman b Llandwrog
Margaret Hughes 39 wife b Llanllyfni
Owen son 14
Margaret dau 13
William son 12
Ellin dau 11
Catherine dau 10
John son 8
Mary dau 4

If anyone can access parish records for possible marriage of Owen and Margaret that would be a wonderful bonus! Their oldest children were born in Llanllyfni in c1836-39.

Thank you for any help. 😊

Anglesey / Occupants of Holyhead Address 1925
« on: Wednesday 13 March 24 14:24 GMT (UK)  »
As per the title, I’d like to find out who lived at a specific address in Holyhead in or around 1925. My grandmother gave the address on her marriage certificate, but she lived in Birkenhead. Is this kind of look up permitted, please?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / What to do next?
« on: Friday 01 March 24 20:18 GMT (UK)  »
Welsh paternal gt grandfather c1866 brick wall for years. Eventually succumbed to an Ancestry DNA test.

Results revealed 3 x 2nd-3rd cousin connections. Lowest one has no info on tree, the other two link to grandchildren of a common ancestor. Four 5th - 8th cousins are also linked to same two grandchildren.  Hardly any other connections to this side though.  No one has answered my friendly messages yet!

I have had this family in my Ancestry shoebox since 2010! Names, dates, locations and occupations are a fit, but my gt grandfather is nowhere to be found.
How should I proceed? The common ancestor had multiple siblings, do I explore them? My gt grandfather would have fitted in perfectly as the oldest son of 7 children in this family, but he is no where to be found until much later.

Hope this makes sense. I know nothing of DNA, learning as I go along. Do you need more specific info to advise?

Thank you

Bronwen 😊

Anglesey / Anglesey to Barrow
« on: Saturday 06 January 24 15:23 GMT (UK)  »
Is it likely that a female passenger would have been able to make a journey from Anglesey to Barrow in Furness by sea in the 1870s? I’m not sure how or where else to search for this info. Thank you.

Trying to find the location of the Red Lion Hotel in this photograph. Next to the hotel is 'Fabre's Stores'. Most of the Fabres in the UK in 20th century lived in either the North East or London.

Arthur Fabre, born Quebec, 1873 (died 1944) lived in Coatham, with his wife and family. The 1911 census describes him as a business owner (draper and outfitter). He did have a business at 55 Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough listed in local directories.

I wonder if he had another business elsewhere in the area listed in the directories, which might lead me to the whereabouts of the photo. There was a Red Lion Hotel in Redcar, but looking at other old photographs, I don't think this is the same premises.

Any insights much appreciated as this puzzle is niggling me!

Caernarvonshire / Trying to find Ellen Jenkins pre 1871
« on: Saturday 09 May 20 09:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello!

After a break I am revisiting my brick wall. One of my lines of enquiry is as follows:

1871 Census has Ellen Jenkins b Pwllheli c1839, unmarried and her niece Catherine Jenkins, b Pwllheli c1854, single, both living in Vron Lodge, Bangor, Caernarvonshire.

I have Ellen in future census records, but can't find either Ellen or Catherine in the earlier census records. Any help appreciated :)

United States of America / June Fox. Las Vegas and New York
« on: Saturday 01 September 18 15:27 BST (UK)  »
Posting on behalf of a friend who wants to find out about the burial details and any additional information about June Fox, born 17/11/1928 London, emigrated to US 1954-56, believed deceased in US in 2013.

My friend found a June Fox 17/11/1928 in Las Vegas on a 1979 Naturalisation record, also stating a name change to McCafferty. My friend has a copy of June's father's will and June is named as McCafferty there too.

My friend found a 2013 death record for June Fox (not June McCafferty) date of birth 17/11/1928, but in District of Columbia.

I wonder if anyone can shed any further light on this lady?

Thank you very much in advance.

The Common Room / Probate
« on: Friday 03 August 18 10:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi!

I have the details of the case number for probate records for a death in Wales in 1992. The information states 'Administration' , so no will was left.

Can anyone advise if the documents available to purchase would include the name of the beneficiary to any estate left?

Thank you. 😊

World War One / WW1 Record Search. William Rees Hughes RAMC
« on: Thursday 08 December 16 15:21 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather, born 1892 lived in Blaenau  Ffestiniog. I have found his Medal Roll entry, but it appears his records were amongst those lost in WW2. Is there any way of finding anything further about his service, please? The only other information  I have are a couple of RAMC group photographs ( no details, but family anecdotal evidence was that he was on one of these photographs). The other snippet I have is  that his mother died in March 1919 and in her obituary it stated that she had not seen her son before she died as he was still serving in France. Thanks for any advice.
