Armed Forces / army pay

Hi All

Just a general query, apologies for my ignorance but how did soldiers (during wars) get paid and how did their dependants access that money?

Thanks

Denbighshire / Minera parish records
« on: Sunday 02 May 21 15:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

Does anyone have the parish records for St. Mary's church Minera 1903. I am looking for a baptism for an Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lloyd (could be October) 1903. It is rumoured that she was baptised over her mothers coffin who had died giving birth to her. So I am looking for a baptism and burial fairly close to each other. I don't know the names of the parents but they may have lived in Gwynfryn.

Thanks
Elaine

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / My true ancestry
« on: Friday 27 March 20 21:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Iv'e just had an ad pop up on my f/b page for "My True Ancestry" so I went to the site. It says I can upload my DNA results for free and my basic analysis is free. Does anyone know if this is worth doing and if the free thing is actually worth it. There's costs for more n depth stuff too.

Thanks

World War Two / Fold3
« on: Monday 02 March 20 20:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

By any chance does anyone have access to 'Fold3' or any Usa military records site?

I am interested in finding out where 4 Usa servicemen served in ww2.

They all went home but have now passed.

Ernest Camille Burnell b.1900 from Westville, Franklin County, New York State
Daniel Burnell b.1922, Edmund Burnell b. 1924 & Nolie A. Burnell b. 1925 all from same location.

I don't know how specific the records are but I am interested in finding out if any of them were stationed in or around North Wales during ww2. Even the branch of the military would help.

Thanks

Hi All

I'm on the cadge again...pretty please ::)

I'm after the baptism details of Alexander Dunn b.1809 in Llandyssil Montgomery.

I have a subscription to Ancestry but can't find it on there. Found it on Find my Past though, but don't have that subscription. I can read the record details but was wondering if the parents names etc were on there

Thanks

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Opinion please
« on: Friday 14 February 20 16:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

Have I been extremely lucky and it really was that simple.....

My Mum was born in 1945. Rumour had it that the Father was a GI. No name ever given.

I have just had my DNA results back (100% British, bit disappointing but never mind) However I have an awful lot of DNA cousin matches in Upstate NY and south Quebec areas (all 2, 3 or 4th cousins) so I matched their trees and found 1 common name. Could it really be that simple and iv'e found him or could there be another explanation. I have looked the name up and he was draughted.

What do you think?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / American grandfather?
« on: Monday 17 December 18 20:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Could someone help me please. Having read a bunch of stuff on the internet I'm more confused than ever. My question is....If I took a Dna test to determine my ethnicity would it be able to tell me if an ancestor was from America or would it just include the ethnicity of the American?

eg. There is a family rumour that my Mothers father was an American G.I but some family members refute that.

If this is possible, what type of test would I need to take. I am female searching for Mothers Father.

I know it would not point to a specific person but as far as I am aware, I have no other rellies from the USA so it could just confirm or deny a rumour.

Thanks
Elaine

Denbighshire / Frog Hall Wrexham
« on: Thursday 07 September 17 19:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Not a family history question. More of a curious wondering really. My house backs onto an unadopted lane in Abenbury; Frog Hall Lane. Does anyone know if Frog Hall actually existed. I have found it on an old map. There was a cottage there, now extended into larger house. Was there an old hall there at some point? I can't find anything online about it.

Thanks
Elaine
