Herefordshire / Weobley to Illinois USA
« on: Saturday 13 April 24 21:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to find out if possible when a relative of mine left Weobley to go to America.

Her name was Mary King Lawrence. She was born in Byford, Hereford on 13th October 1835. She was baptised in Byford, Hereford on 18th October 1835. Her 1st marriage was to John Wilson in Hereford 1857. They had 9 known children before John Wilson died in Weobley, Hereford in 1872. She married her 2nd husband George Jones in Preston on Wye, Weobley on 6th March 1873. We believe they had 2 children, possibly more. One possibly George and another Ella. We know nothing of these 2 children nor her 2nd husband George Jones. Between 1873 and 1922 we know many of her children and herself went to Illinois USA. She died in Illinois USA on 17th December 1922.

Any help in finding when she arrived in America and left the UK would be greatly appreciated. It would also be nice to find out what happened to George Jones and/if what happened to any children they had from this 2nd marriage.

Kind regards.

Europe / Help finding Pirotte's in Liege, Belgium.
« on: Wednesday 21 February 24 20:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for any information I don't have for the Pirotte family of Liege. Possible place names are; Ougree, Jemepne and Hollogne.

Here's what I know:

My relative is Albert George Pirotte b.1919-1973 both Swansea. He married Jane Staddon in 1942 Swansea.

His parents were: Arthur Jules Gerard Pirotte b.1883 Belgium d.1966 Swansea and (m.1918 Swansea) to Mary Butler.

Arthur (above) parents were: Toussaint Pirotte b.1846 Belgium d.1903 Belgium. (M) Marie Catherine Havaux b.1854 Belgium.

Toussaint (above) parents were: Lambert Pirotte d.16/1/1869? Belgium (m) Elisabeth Jolis b?

I know Albert George Pirotte's b.1919 children information but know nothing more than mentioned above, further back in the family.

Any help or information would be very much appreciated if at all possible.

Kind regards.

Argyllshire / Maclean's of Creich, Ross of Mull
« on: Wednesday 10 January 24 21:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, this is a long shot I know, but any help to connect would be great.

I'm trying to connect Marion Maclean to the McLean lines further back. So ideally am looking for her parents via a baptism record etc.

I believe she was born around 1780 on Mull and died 1850 Ross of Mull.
She married a MacDonald and they had a daughter Mary MacDonald born in Creich, Ross of Mull 1818 and she died 17/6/1857 Ross of Mull.

I've sleuthed the ancestry lines of Maclean's in Ross, Killian, Ardfinaig and a few more but nothing seems to offer a connection. So live in hope that anyone can see something more obvious.

Marion Maclean is my 4 great grandmother and it would be great to connect to the Maclean clan and link to Duart castle.

Any help would be greatful.

Kin regards.

Europe / Matty surname France to England
« on: Monday 26 June 23 11:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm just wondering if any of you brilliant researchers can offer information or have come accross any that i have not.

I've been researching the Matty surname (my family) for years and am very interested in this unusual name.

What I'm mainly trying to confirm and determine is when this name arrived in the uk from France.

My family line i can take back to mainly Gloucester, Worcester and in Ripple, last entries around late 1500's and I'm aware that they had links to Ardennes in France and stories of French/Swiss knights that possibly had Jewish heritage and/or were Huguenots fleeing Catholic persecution.

I know I'm lucky to have gone back this far as many do not, but it's a story and search subject that has gripped me.

So the question is, can anyone out there help link this family name to France and further back?

Any help from French researchers would be greatly received as i seem to have exhausted most avenues in the uk.

Kind regards.

We don't know if he is still living? My friends mums name is (*)and they got married in Blackpool 1988. They split many years ago.

Is there any way to track this man down through electoral rolls etc?

If willing my friend would very much like to meet his father for the first time and offer the chance of a relationship should he want to.

Kind Regards,

Midlothian / McArthur's on 1911 census look up please
« on: Thursday 27 February 14 13:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can help me trace my great grandfather and his brother on the 1911 census?

We have them on previous census's but i'm so far unable to locate them both on a 1911 one.

They are:
Angus McArthur b.1885 Leith
Henry McArthur b.1886 Leith

Both were at the Leith Indistrial School for destitute people on the 1901 census as their parents were both deceased.

Any help locating them on a 1911 census would be greatly recieved.

Kindest Regards,

Pedro

Australia / help tracing a death record
« on: Tuesday 04 February 14 09:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi i'm wondering if anyone could possibly help with finding a death record.

A while ago I was searching for my great grandfather's death and came accross this record:

Angus McArthur died 1925, Father Donald.

I think i found it on the Australian Death index or similarly named. The problem was this was all the info i could get from it.

Is there anyone who could pinpoint a location and possibly retrieve anymore info from the document?

Any help would be fantastic.

Thanks,

Pedro.

Came across this interesting site and thought it would be really good read and source for anyone looking for information on Swansea Docks and surrounding areas. It has loads of old pictures of people, the area, old ships, old crew members and it's construction and development, with a bundle of facts and information thrown in.

here's the link:

Enjoy!  :)
