Europe / Netherlands - Vos Weinreich (also connection to Spain)
« on: Monday 10 April 23 00:44 BST (UK)  »
Bit lost on this brick wall and wondered if anyone can throw any light on it with fresh eyes.
I'm helping with my partners family tree which  is centered in the Netherlands. Lots of family stories but I'm trying to work with fact.

What I know..
I have a photo of a tombstone in Spain which reads Anna Weinreich Vos. Born 26 Sept 1911. Died 30 June 1978.
This is my partners Grandmother,  she was definitely born in Netherlands and died in Spain. I believe her husband's name was Kareltje Weinreich.  He also died in Spain. They were apparently married in Spain and I'm thinking is not before 1950.
Her 3 children were born to another relationship prior to this marriage and they have the surname Vos ( we have been told Vos was her maiden name and the children were all given that surname) and she was unmarried to their father. I do have his name. I only have a date of birth for 2 of the children.
I am going thru a lot of papers, all in Dutch and I'm in New Zealand so it's a big of a struggle. Her oldest son is near me but the information is limited and a bit confused. I'm hoping I might come across a birth certificate or similar records.
Any ideas on where to start?

Kent / Scivener - Kent
« on: Tuesday 20 April 21 04:36 BST (UK)  »
I have done some work on a Scrivener family in Kent and believe I have the name of a living(?)relative in Cliffe, Kent. This information was correct as of the early 2000's

Can someone either help me with updating that information (I have an address) or steer me in the right direction as to where to find that. I am living in New Zealand so limited to what is available online or need to have the help of someone on the ground in Kent.
I have a full name, Date of Birth and last known address

Thanks
Anna

Australia / John Palmer Collins - Victoria
« on: Saturday 07 September 19 01:40 BST (UK)  »
I'm helping my stepson with his family tree for his Mothers side of the family and have hit a brick wall.

I have traced his Collins family from New Zealand back to Australia with the birth of John Harry Collins (9/5/1861) in Victoria to John Palmer Collins and Annette Lewcock (Mary Annette). Also siblings Frank Collins, William Palmer Collins & George Edward Collins. The family came across to NZ sometime between 1859 and 1869. I have a marriage of John and Annette in 19 Oct 1858,  Emerald Hill, Victoria, Australia

I have some information on Annette Lewcock and can trace her parents but John Palmer Collins is a mystery. He died in NZ in 1886 and information I have come across puts his birth at around 1819. He was a Captain (Master Mariner) and is listed as such in some of the information I have found about his later life but birth and parents (and other family) are a mystery.

I have ordered a death certificate in the hope it might bring some information to light as at that time parents and place of birth if known are meant to be recorded on death certs in NZ. Until that arrives I was wondering if there could be any other information at an Australian level that I haven't come across thru Ancestry.

Many thanks

England / Mystery Cranes - Kent? London?
« on: Wednesday 15 May 19 08:41 BST (UK)  »
I am doing some research to try and discover the  DNA link between two people and run into brick walls in trying to trace one persons line. Maybe someone would like a challenge?
My known facts
John Charles Crane born 11 May 1912 Hammersmith - Mothers maiden name Schmid on births registration

Father known to be Arthur Crane and mother Annie Maria Schmid (b 1873). Married 2 July 1893 Hammersmith

Arthur's father listed on marriage Banns as Alfred - deceased.

I have Arthur and Annie on census 1901 and 1911 (he born approx 1870) listing birthplace as Canterbury on one and Whitstable Kent on the other.

I cannot find him on any other census. I cannot find a birth in Kent between 1868 and 1873.
Total mystery man
Any ideas?

Many thanks

Warwickshire / Talor - Stretton on Dunsmore
« on: Thursday 08 September 16 06:43 BST (UK)  »
Hitting a brick wall on my Taylor's

I have Deborah Taylor b Stretton on Dunsmore 1849 parents George Taylor (1818-1855 and Eliza Sheasby (1822 remarried to William Webster on death of George)
George has parents of James Taylor & Sarah Johnson (Baptism 1818 lists parents)
James and Sarah married 16/4/1812 Stretton on Dunsmore (banns appear to show him as  widowed) birth in approx 1771. I have them both on census in 1841
While I've managed to find Sarah's parents and siblings and can move this line backwards and sideways I am stuck when it comes to John. I find no first marriage nor birth so far and getting frustrated as I can't move this any further back. A witness of William Taylor on the banns implies a brother??
Any suggestions?
Many thanks

Europe / Death - Paris 1964
« on: Tuesday 19 July 16 07:35 BST (UK)  »
I have a receipt from a Funeral Director in Paris referring to a death of a relation. I would like to know more about this but have no idea where to start. I have a name and a date from the receipt and I believe her husband died in the car accident also

Name is Mary Golden (Golding?) nee Reid (formally Cummings) death 30 July 1964. Her husband was Patrick. She born in Scotland and I know nothing about him and have been told more than 1 spelling of surname but Golden is the one on the receipt.

Suggestions?

Many thanks

New Zealand Completed Requests / Brick Wall Martins Timaru/Christchurch COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 15 August 10 23:31 BST (UK)  »
Doing some work on part of the extended family tree and running into big brick walls and wondered if anyone had any suggestions before i head down the certificate road.

I have a Robert Martin born Timaru c1870 (parents Robert and Catherine Martin) He married a Charlotte Heasman in 1898 in Christchurch.

I am keen to track more on his Martin family having found a lot out about the Heasmans. I found mention of a brother on Papers Past of the death of a son of Robert and Catherine called William so I believe there was at least 1 sibling. Catherine's maiden name was given to me as Flaughton but I believe this is incorrect as I cannot find anything linked to this at all, it may be wrong or a typo.

I don't know if they were married here or England so unsure of when they may have arrived. I found a death for a Catherine Martin in 1924 in Geraldine and Geraldine was mentioned by another family member as a place that was visited in the holidays.

Any suggestions appreciated

thanks
Anna
