Derry (Londonderry) / Crockett & Guy, Strand Road/Waterloo Place, Derry
« on: Sunday 28 October 07 19:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I know this one is a bit out of the normal run of questions but here goes!

Does anyone know what happened to Crockett & Guy the Ironmongers at 1 Strand Buildings, Derry?  My Grandfather was offered an apprenticeship there and I have the letter with the pay offer for the first 5 years.  I have a photo sometime after 1928 with the store on it, next to the National Bank, opposite the Victoria Buildings.

I went there last week and the National Bank is the Bank of Ireland and the Victoria Market sign is still opposite but the building where Crockett and Guy stood has been redeveloped, does anyone know when?

Thanks

Kev

Derry (Londonderry) / Learmount Castle
« on: Sunday 28 October 07 18:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get any details on Learmount Castle in Co. Londonderry?  I visited last week and it is a derelict shell but I believe my Great Grandfather worked there and that my grandfather was born in Learmount in 1906.

I have looked but cannot find any mention of it anywhere in any books or Online.

Any guidance would be gratefully received,

Thanks

Devon / Mary Ann CHOWN marrying Henry GRIFFIN
« on: Wednesday 20 December 06 19:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Does anyone have any information on Mary Ann Chown (born Sidbury abt 1804 according to all the census) marrying Henry Griffin (born abt 1801, Sidbury/Farway)

The first child I know about was in 1826, William who married Sophia Chown (don't know if Sophia and Mary Ann were related)

Also do you have any info on Marys parents as I seem to have come to a dead end.

Thanks & Merry Christmas   :)

« on: Sunday 12 March 06 13:50 GMT (UK)  »
Henry Bradford born approx 1811 in wartling Sussex, should be around Wartling or Hailsham in 1841.

Wife Sarah (firrell) b. 1815 approx in Wartling.

Children, Thomas b. 1831 in Wartling; Henry b. 1834, Wartling; Jane b. 1839 Hailsham.

Can anyone have a look to see if there were any other children please as 1834 - 1839 seems a fair distance with no children?

If it is of any use to anyone as a result of researching my tree I have all the entries for FIRRELL from the Birth, Marriage and Death indices from the Family Records Centre and the Wills index post 1858 from the Pricipal Registry in Holborn and will pass on anything that will be of use to anyone researching the name.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / 1861 Census Charlton, Kent
« on: Monday 27 December 04 16:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help?
I have a 1871 Census entry for a Firrell (sometimes Ferrell) family in 5 Mount Street Charlton, Greenwich.

They are:
George  Head aged 51  Carpenter   b. Pevensea Sussex
Harriet   Wife  aged 48                     b. Woolwich, Kent
Charlotte Daur aged 17                    b. Charlton, Kent
Maria      Daur  aged 15                           do
Ellen       Daur  aged 12                            do

I think there was a son John as I have Ellen as a sister when he was head in the 1881 census and I have a John that matches as a boarder in Lambeth in 1871.

Is there anywhere to get the 1861 census to see if John was the son?  He was 19 in 1871 and was born in Charlton, Kent so ties in with the rest of the family, but just need to confirm so I can tie in all the decendants from him into my tree with certainty!

Thanks

Kev :)

Completed Census Requests / 1891 Census Lookup Lambeth
« on: Saturday 18 December 04 17:25 GMT (UK)  »
Has anyone got any details of a WOODHEAD family in the 1891 Census please.  They were listed (as far as I know) as Sarah and Henry and were living in Lambeth.  Henry would have been about 20 and I think Sarah was older.

Any help in getting more details on them would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Completed Census Requests / 1841/1851 Census - St George Southwark - Firrell
« on: Tuesday 05 October 04 17:42 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone lookup for Mark FIRRELL and family for 1841 and 1851 please.

I believe in 1851 they were in Mermaid court, Southwark so may have been there also in 1841.
There may be different wives as I think(?) his first wife died between the census dates, first wife (1841)could be elizabeth and second (1851)Mary.

Thanks

Kev
