Hertfordshire / Jones family of Bishops Stortford
« on: Tuesday 22 October 19 11:38 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone here researching the Jones family of Bishops Stortford?

When my ggg grandparents Sarah Jones and William Death (pronounced Deeth) spinster and bachelor both of Bishops Stortford married in St Mary, Whitechapel, in 1792 the witnesses were William Woodham and George Starkins, who had married Sarah Jones and Mary Jones in 1770 and 1790 respectively.

My guess would be that Sarah Death and Mary Starkins were sisters and Sarah Woodham an aunt or possibly cousin. But I haven't been able to positively identify them before their marriages.

Anyone know anything about them?

I have some details about the descendants of William Woodham of Bishops Stortford born 1750 if anyone is interested in them.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Augustus Dawes marriage September 1837 Alverstoke
« on: Saturday 23 September 17 11:10 BST (UK)  »
Hello
Would anyone be able to look up a marriage between Augustus Edward Dawes and Thirza Matthews 11 September 1837 at Alverstoke?
I am interested in any information about the groom's father (also witnesses and profession of groom if given).

I have found Augustus and Thirza living in Northwood on the Isle of Wight in 1841 census with two daughters, but have been unable to find them in 1851, so don't have a place of birth for Augustus. So if anybody can find them on the 1851 census... Augustus died in 1859.

Thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Samuel and Ruth Carter, Sowerby 1820s
« on: Friday 02 August 13 11:22 BST (UK)  »
I wondered if anyone else is researching the family of Samuel and Ruth Carter who were living in the Sowerby area in the 1820s. Samuel was a carpenter/joiner. Children born in Yorkshire include Emmeline, Shepherd, Samuel, Matilda, Priscilla. The family then (sometime in the 1830s) moved to Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire, and had more children - Joseph and Sarah. Also Angela.
I am not asking for look-ups, just hoping to find someone who has this family in their tree or already knows something about them.

Kent / Harry Butcher of Owens Court Farm, Selling
« on: Wednesday 31 July 13 17:58 BST (UK)  »
Harry Butcher (born Lichfield, Staffordshire, about 1864) appears on the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census as the son of farmers Thomas and Martha Butcher at Owens Court Farm, Selling, near Faversham. I haven't been able to find him on the 1901 census but in 1902 there is a marriage in London between a Harry Butcher, 38, engineer, son of Thomas, and Elma Carter whose address is Faversham so I am guessing this may be the same Harry Butcher. Elma Butcher reappears as a widow remarrying in Canada in 1924, incidentally to John Byron Amos who was born in Sheldwich which I think is also near Faversham.
I was wondering if anyone has Harry Butcher in their tree and might know what happened to him and Elma after their marriage and if they had any children. To avoid unnecessary lookups I am only interested at the moment in Harry and Elma (and I know who Elma was and where she was on the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census although I don't know what she was doing in Faversham).

Does anyone have access to the Lea and Cleverton parish records? If so, would they be able to look for the baptism of a Thomas Hart, born about 1817 - 1821? Thanks

Just to explain why I am still looking for a Hart baptism when I have found my Hart baptised in Leicestershire, although his parents married in Devizes. I have only been able to find him on one census -1851 - living with his wife. On the other years I can find his wife and children but he is not with them (they later divorced so were probably separated). There is one likely looking Thomas Hart living in South Cerney, Glos, but he gives his birthplace as Lea, Wiltshire. If there is a baptism for him in the Lea and Cleverton records, then I can eliminate him from my enquiries.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / All Saints Loughborough - HART
« on: Wednesday 14 July 10 14:25 BST (UK)  »
I wondered if someone could look up a baptism in All Saints Loughborough parish records

Thomas Ingleman Hart - 10 October 1816 - parents Thomas Peter and Charlotte Jane (I got that from the familysearch pilot site)

I would like to know if there is a profession for Thomas Peter Hart and if there is a marriage for Thomas Peter and Charlotte Jane, and any siblings (although there are younger siblings baptised in Nottingham, so the family may have just been passing through)

Many thanks

I would be grateful if anyone could look up my greatgreatgrandfather's baptism

Thomas Ingleman Hart

On the 1851 census it says he is 34 (born 1816/1817) and born in Devizes Wiltshire.
