Westmorland / vis /Rudd of Stainmore,Westmorland
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 09:07 GMT (UK)  »
My ggrandparents.George and Elizabeth Hydes married and lived in Evenwood,Durham before migrating to New Zealand.

The marriage certificate lists Elizabeth's father as
Robert Davis and her NZ death certificate similarly has father as Robert Davies, occupation miner and her mother as Sarah Rod.In researching her parents the most likely fit appears from 1841 census :-
Robert Davis   age 40 -44  born out of county
implied wife   Sarah             age 40- 44 born out of county
and implied children Thomas,John,James,Sarah,Mary,Elizabeth -the latter age 1
and residence Evenwood,Durham.

I also have found a marriage record for Robert Davis and Sarah Rudd in Brough under Stainmore,Westmorland 27/12/1821.
Another on line record shows a christening for John Davis, father Robert ,mother Sarah at Toll Barr,Mickleton,Yorkshire.
Given Robert's occupation as a miner I suspect the family perhaps moved around the top of England seeking work opportunities.

So now I'm trying to get definitive vital details for both Robert and Sarah. While the above cited 1841census has place of birth "out of county",this is confirmed in the 1851 and 1861 C where Stainmore and Longrig,Westmorland are their listed birth places.

But immediately I strike a brickwall as records for Sarah Rudd show-
                (1) baptised 14-1-1798  birth place Appleby
father Anthony Rudd   mother Jane Blackett

       and   (2)  baptised 1-9-1799  birth place Brackenbur,Appleby
father John Rudd     mother Margaret Hornsby

Appreciative of any help or suggestions with my dilemma. Please excuse any delays in reply to responders of this request -it comes from New Zealand so time differences may contribute .

Thanks

Somerset / TAVENER family,Stoke under Hawdon
« on: Monday 09 October 17 10:13 BST (UK)  »
The 1911 NZ death certificate of my ggrandmother,Elizabeth Anthony lists her parents as George Robbins and Elizabeth Robbins formerly Tavener.A copy of the latters death certificate (ie Elizabeth Robbins) reconfirms George as her spouse, married 25/12/1853 St Pancras,London and also gives her parents as Peter and Catherine (born Young); farmers.

From the 1841 Census I have found presumably the correct ancestral link as below:

Peter and Catherine Tavener living in Stoke under Hamdon,Somerset and (implied) children

           Maria          20- 24
            James        20 - 24
           Mary            15 - 19
           Elizabeth       12
           Harriot            1

Given the age span of the family I suspect Harriot may be the child of Maria or James. Then I find the marriage of Maria to John Whitehead in Yeovil,1850 and that family listed in the 1851 census as:-
          John Whitehead   Head          33
          Maria Whitehead  Wife           33
Harriett Tavener   Dau in law   11
Lewis   Tavener   Son in law     8
           Mary Whitehead  Daughter      10 months

However I am unable to find records for Peter and Catherine Tavener apart from the 1841C listing.

Would be grateful for any assistance for this couple. Surname variants differ between Tavener,Taverner and Taviner!!

Thanks for any leads

Dorset Lookup Requests / Mary Ann King (bStanley) of Dorset and Jersey
« on: Sunday 16 July 17 02:46 BST (UK)  »
Records show Mary Ann Stanley was bpt at Holy Trinity,Dorchester 11-2-1857 and her parents listed as William(deceased) and Catherine.
St George,Fordington burial index lists a William Styanley (assume a typo error) died /buried 3/7/1856 age 29so I presume this could be Mary Ann's father.
Marriage banns 24-11-1851 for Christchurch,W Fordington detail William Napoleon Stanley a bachelor a chimney sweep resident at Fordington married to Catherine CREATE a 19 a spinster a labourer resident of Fordington father unknown.

Mary Ann Stanley and Charles Phelp King later raised a family and lived in St Heliers,Jersey although I have not been able to locate marriage records for this couple in Dorset or Channel Islands.
The 1891 census of St Heliers lists Mary Ann King a 35 b England Unmarried, wives own means, her 6 children and Catherine LUEN a 60 mother, widow.
Similarly, 1911 census for Jersey lists Mary Ann King a 56 b Dorchester with 2 older daughters and Catherine Lurn (again presume typo) a 74 mother. I have taken Catherine as mother of Mary Ann.

So from all this I am trying to get specific records for :-
1  Mary Ann Stanley & Charles Phelp King marriage
2 the 2 Catherine's (Create and Luen/Lurn ) are they the same and can anyone help with Catherine Create profile.

Thanks

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / ANTHONYS of Chilbolton
« on: Sunday 07 February 10 08:24 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to get specific links between various members of the ANTHONY family in or around Chilbolton and covering a wide span in time.
My ggg grandfather Alfred (born1820) married Sarah Knight in 1842 before migrating to New Zealand.A copy of his marriage certificate lists father as JAMES ,a tailor but thereafter I have not found any other detail for James.
However  Knightsroot  (from Chilbolton parish records) lists baptisms further back of various Anthony children :-
   Peter,Elizabeth,Robert   - parents John and Anne  1765 - 1770
   Anne,Mary,John              - parents John and Jane   1758 - 1761
   Mary,Elizabeth,Jane,Robert,John,William - parents Robert and Rose  1721 - 1736
Jane,John,Eliza,Rose         - children of Robert (no maternal name listed)

So looking for any info regarding this family and their relationships especially in the 1770 - 1800 period as obviously this is when the elusive James would have been born/baptised.

Grateful for any assistance or advice
 Milt.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Help needed -BAGSHAWS of Yorkshire
« on: Thursday 06 November 08 09:08 GMT (UK)  »
The NZ registered death certificate for my gg grandmother (Sarah Conyer b abt 1821 in Dewsbury) lists her parents as :
                                  John Bagshaw occ iron founder
                           and Nancy Bagshaw nee DIXON
The 1841 Yorkshire census lists another likely link including a
John Bagshaw b c1796   iron founder
                     Jane Bagshaw b c1796
                     Sarah               b c1821
together with another 6 children all (parents and children )born in county
 Address  - Anchor Hill,Dewsbury

Also the IGI list a John Bagshaw b 1791 Masbrough,Yorkshire married to Jane Dixon (b1794) at St Peters,Birstall,Leeds in 1814

Assuming this is the same John Bagshaw then it appears he married at least twice but I am uncertain how or where I can get verification and any other info relating to this family.
Appreciate any suggestions from so far away.

Milt.
