Lanarkshire / St Peters/Dalbeth cemetery
« on: Sunday 27 March 11 15:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

Does anyone know if it's at all possible to work out where "common ground" would have been in this cemetery?

I've discovered a rellie buried there and although we know we can't put a stone or anything we'd like to go and lay flowers 'somewhere'.

Thanks
Julie

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / 1881 Census help please
« on: Friday 07 January 11 16:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am hoping a kind soul can help me up by looking up an 1881 census listing in Green Hammerton for me.

I've been searching for my Ibbotson's on the 1881 for ages. On the  IGI this afternoon I've come across a listing for the cottage in Green Hammerton. It has what looks like 3 of my Ibbotson's listed;

William, b1825 Whixley, Ag Lab
Jane, b1826 Longmartson, his wife
Emma, b1872 Green Hammerton, his daughter.

They are missing at least 5 of their children so I wondered if someone could have a look at the actual page to double check for me that it is indeed only Emma with them so that I can concentrate on finding the others elsewhere (which has proved fruitless so far :()

The other children are Ellen, William, John, Elizabeth and Arthur.

Thank you
Julz

Scotland / B, D & M Look ups offer - tomorrow
« on: Monday 01 November 10 20:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

I'm off to the Genealogy centre at Park Circus tomorrow. I will make time to do a few look up if anyone is needing.

I couldn't find a way to narrow by area last time so general look ups of births with really common names (ie children of the marriage of John Smith and new wife) are probably going to take too long, but specific certs should be fine.

I'll be off to bed about 11pm and probably won't get on in the morning, but will try.

Hi

I'm off to the SP Centre on Wednesday and since I've had so much help from here over the years I'm happy to do a few looks ups for people whilst I'm there.

Please either post details here or PM me by Monday night and I'll see what I can do.

United States of America / McCaw/McCall census help please
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 13:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

Sorry for asking for more help. I'm going around in circles trying to find a family who emigrated to the USA (Pennsylvania again), but I can't find them on the census.

Agnes McCaw and her son John travelled to the USA in June 1900 to join up with Agnes' husband William. His address on their shop list is Sturgeon Post Office. They travel again in 1907 and again in 1914. I believe after that they stayed in America so I had been hoping to find them on the 1910 or 1920 census, but I cannot find them.

On the boats their name was spelt as McCall so I've been searching under both. I know from the ship lists for themselves (and other's travelling to them) they lived mainly around Washington, PA.

William was born in 1871 in Glasgow, Agnes in 1872 in Motherwell and John in 1898 in Motherwell.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be very gratefully appreciated.

Lanarkshire / 1871 missing family help please
« on: Sunday 25 April 10 20:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm hoping someone can help me crack this. I've lost an entire family on the 1871 census and I'm wondering if I just can't see a spelling difference or something.

They are the McCalden family. In 1861 they are at 3 Foundry Open, High Church, Glasgow.

The family consists of Samuel b 1817 Kilmarnock
Jane b1818 Maybole, Ayrshire
Robert b1838 Maybole, Ayrshire
John b1840 Glasgow
Thomas b1845 Glasgow
Jane b1849 Glasgow
David b1853 Glasgow
Isabella b1856 Glasgow

I have them in 1841, 1851 and 1861, but can find no trace of any of them in 1871.

I've found Jane in 1881 and she's a widow. Also found Robert, John and Thomas so far in 1881.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Lanarkshire / Argyle St, Motherwell - any ideas?
« on: Tuesday 30 March 10 20:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Does anyone have any idea where this street was? It' given as an address on the 1891 census. It's listed as being in the Dalziel parish and 2 of the male occupants (including the head of house) were coal miners.

Thanks
Julz
