The Common Room / family research possible dead end!
« on: Sunday 12 September 10 22:25 BST (UK)  »
Can anybody help?
I know that Marjorie Eleanor Fisher was born on 14.5.1923 according to her mother's diaries. Her mother - Edith Emily Griffiths - was reported to have said she was born in Coventry. Marjorie's father was William Herbert Fisher. The GRO have done a search for me two years either side of 1923 but cannot find a record of this birth.
Nobody in the family that knew these people have heard anything about Edith and William living abroad. Is it possible to find a birth abroad or if Marjorie was adopted? There were black and white photos in William Herbert Fisher's possesion showing oil wells and men in checked 'lumberjack' shirts.
Thanks

I'm trying to find the entry for the marriage of Hugh Burns and Sarah Brady. They were married on 31.10.1860 in the Blackfriars District of Glasgow, but I have had no luck in finding any reference.
Can anybody help please?

This photograph is of the Brown side of my family. The woman looks like my grandmother, but the children are not correct. It is a postcard with 'The old hen and her chicks' on the reverse, but no other information.

I am unable to find Marjorie's birth certificate. I have tracked down her wedding certificate showing her marriage to Dilwyn Pope on 5.4.1947 aged 23 and her death on 5.3.1950 in Wrexham aged 26.
Her parents were William Herbert Fisher and Edith Emily Griffiths. When they married in 1920 they were living in Coventry.
Can any body help track her down.

I am having difficulty reading this record.

I would like to know the sort of thing she did, and why she could possibly have had a pay rise to what I thought would have been quite a substantial sum in those days.

William Herbert Fisher married Edith Emily Griffiths on 21.12.1920 at the Queens Road Baptist Church, Coventry.
She was born on 9.3.1891 in Coventry and died there on 30.9.1986. Her death was registered by her grandson Michael Pope.
I cannot find any record for any children born to William and Edith. Can anybody help?

I was fascinated by this. She seemed to be paid a lot. Anybody any idea what she may have done during that time?
