My great Grandfather William S C Lawrence and his partner/wife Hilda moved from Kirby le-Soken in Essex where they had a confectionery shop in 1911, to I believe Doncaster where Hilda originally came from.

Hilda's real surname was Booth and she was born around 1860 in Norton, Sheffield and her father was a Thomas Booth, a blacksmith also from Norton.  Hilda had 4 children by William 2 sons and two daughters, all born in London or Essex.

William was a Londoner born in St.Pancras in 1841 which makes him over 70 when he decided to move to Doncaster with Hilda, but I don't know if any of their children born 1895, 1897, 1899, 1901 went with them.  One son Sidney died in WW1 while the 2nd son Reginald changed his name to Wiliam Farrow and after a couple of marriages emigrated to Australia.

William had run public houses from 1871 to 1908 while Hilda ran the confectionery shop.

I would like to know if William ran another pub in Doncaster which could be why they moved there.  I would also like to know where they lived in Doncaster and if either daughter went to live in Doncaster with them.

Please can anyone help me in researching the above Richard Lawrence born in 1715 in Stow-in-Lindsey.  Richard had a son born in 1747 and this son married an Elizabeth Crowder born somewhere in Lincolnshire in 1747.  Richard and Elizabeth moved to Stickney in Lincolnshire where Richard's occupation was as a farmer.  They had 9 children all of whom were born in Stow in Lindsey.

One of these children was also called Richard Lawrence. born in 1775 in Stow in Lindsey, married an Isabella Groose in Stickney in 1803c., and  he died in 1820 age 45 in Stickney.

I would love to discover more info  about the original Richard born 1715 i.e.. who he married?, what his occupation was etc.

I am assuming that a local church would have records going back as far as 1715 and I have tried looking on a well known site, but it won't allow me back in as they keep telling me my e-mail address is already registered ( which is probably me but there is no way of explaining that to them).

Thanks for any help you can give me.

After many years of searching I believe that I may have discovered where my Gt.Grandfather William S (T) C Lawrence spent his last days before dying.  He left my Gt.Grandmother to live with a woman called Hilda and they lived in Kirby le Soken in Essex.  Around 1912 they left this area and disappeared.........  I recently found a death record of a William T C Lawrence who died in 1917 in Doncaster and a Hilda Lawrence who died in 1919.
Can anyone give me any further info regarding these two people.  They may have also had their daughter Dora Mary living with them in Doncaster too.  I'd be grateful for any help.
After researching Hilda I discovered she was originally Amelia Booth born in Norton, Doncaster.

Breconshire / Edris Thomas Death??
« on: Sunday 02 November 14 08:39 GMT (UK)  »
My mother-In-Law was born in 1909 in Brynmawr/Crickhowell and her parents were Maud Maria Williams and Edris Thomas who married in 1906.  On the 1911 census Maud is back living with her Williams family in Crickhowell and Edris is back with his Thomas family.  M-I-L (now deceased) told me her father fell down a mountain while drunk when she was a baby so never knew him!!!!! :-\

I have been unable to find a death for an Edris/Idris Thomas around the time of my M-I-L's infancy, and wonder if when parents split up that was the general story they told the children. ??? ???

Edris's mother was Leah (nee Jones) and father was William Thomas.

Cavan / McDermotts from Killmacaran or Shercock
« on: Sunday 31 August 14 09:55 BST (UK)  »
I would like to know if there are any ancestors of Edward & Bridget McDermott still living in Cavan.  E & B needed a Bishops dispensation to get married in 1840 while living on Kilmacaran, and I would like to know why :-\

They had several children from 1842- 1860 and then they left Cavan with some of their younger children to go to either USA or Durham.  I have been told but haven't verified that this family went to USA, but because some of them were ill the whole of the family were not allowed into America so some stayed and the sick ones came back to England.  If any of this story rings any bells please get in touch.

Like a lot of families in Ireland the story goes that Edward and Bridget were kicked off their land some time during 1850's and 60's.

Children from this family were:  John, Michael, Mary, Annie, Edward, Thomas, Patrick and James.

Bridget's maiden name was either Ginty, McEntee, McGinty ???.  She also grew up on Kilmacaran.

A recent connection I had with a person who was researching someone in my tree helped me look for two stumbling blocks regarding my ancestry.

I was never able to find the death of my GG Grandfather William S C Lawrence, the last known info I had on him was living in Kirby-le Soken, Essex in 1908 on Kellys Trade Records.  His partner (not married) wife Hilda (possibly not her real Christian name) was found on the 1911 Census as a confectioner living with their 4 children at an address in Kirby Le Soken on the 1911 census, was married 17 years but there was no William.

The lady who contacted me had full Ancestry membership and was able to find info on Hilda (Booth??)  >:( >:(which showed she had been married to a William A Ross in Newington in 1879 and living with him and children on the 1881 census.  Hilda's place of birth on both the 1881 and 1911 census's was Doncaster.  She changed both her Christian and surnames  a couple of times making her difficult to find. Eventually this lady thinks that she found the deaths of both William and Hilda in 1917 and 1919 in Doncaster.  She based this info on William's initials of T C Lawrence.  It adds up that they left K-l-S and went North perhaps after their first son was killed in WW1.  Did they take their surviving children with them :-\  Dora born 1900, Caroline Mary born 1898 both born in Kirby-le-Soken.  Also would like to know if any of Hilda's Booth ancestry have any further info on this family. I believe Hilda was from a small village outside of Doncaster.

Any help would be appreciated.

Possible Christian for Hilda - Amelia????:-\

Durham Lookup Requests / McDermott Buildings
« on: Tuesday 12 August 14 09:51 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone remember a block of flats called 'McDermott Buildings'.  They were apparently a block of flats in Newfield, Co. Durham, given this name because so many of the McDermott families lived there.  The properties were demolished in the 60's and the land is now a car park so I have been told.  I would like to know who owned these flats if it's possible.  I have asked the Durham authorities who couldn't help as I didn't know the correct address.

Durham Lookup Requests / Mary Winnifred McDermott
« on: Thursday 31 July 14 16:30 BST (UK)  »
Mary was born in 1902 in Pelton/Chester-le-Fell, and died in 1908 age 6.  Is there any way I can find out how she died?  Family folklore says she was run over by a horse and cart, but her mother lost so many children that it could have been one of the others that died in that tragic way.  Of her 10 children Mary Ann McDermott lost 5 as small children, then her 17 year old son was killed in France in WW1.  Four sons survived.  Will young Mary's cause of death be on the death certificate.  Would a child's accidental death have been noted in the local papers :'( ???

Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Redden
« on: Sunday 03 June 12 19:57 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for Jane Redden born 1885 in Risca.  Jane married a William Williams around 1904 and they had two children by 1911 as shown on the census.  Family folklore says that William died after falling down a mountain.  I would like to know when William died and who his parents were.  The youngest child of Jane and William was Edith May Williams who was my mother-in-law.  Jane remarried an Idris Thomas I believe as when Edith May married in 1929 her name was Edith May Thomas.  I have contacted a member of the Redden family and they know nothing about Jane a child of William and Mary Redden and I wonder if they had a family fallout shortly after Jane married William.
