The Common Room / Too many possible parents
« on: Saturday 04 January 14 22:42 GMT (UK)  »

My great great grandfather was Thomas Hugh, born in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, Wales, sometime around 1817-1819.  I have found three couples who "qualify" as parents for Thomas....right area, right time, and right first name for the father (also named Thomas).

My question is how can I eliminate one, two, or even all three couples?  The first available census, 1841, shows one Thomas living with parents, Thomas and Ann, about eight miles from Pembrey.  That family also showed two other family members with similar names to our family.

The other possible sets of parents, Thomas and Annie, and Thomas and Jane (all married in Pembrey within reasonable dates), don't show up intact in the 1841 census.

Am I missing a clue?  Am I missing a source? I've spent hours on Ancestry.com, Family Search.org, Mocavo, Archives, etc. and I live in California so physically researching in Carmarthenshire is not an option.

I will appreciate any and all suggestions. :)

 Susanna Lewis b 1800 UptonWaters , Shropshire

My gr gr gr grandmother was Susanna Lewis, born 1800 in Upton Waters . I have three sources for her Baptism in the Litchfield Diocese. Her parents are listed as James Lewis and Susanna. I've had no luck at all tracing those parents! I have tried other parishes nearby without results. It's as if they were dropped from Mars. I am limited to whatever I can discover on the Internet and will welcome any and all suggestions.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / 1851 census Glamorganshire
« on: Sunday 26 August 07 18:53 BST (UK)  »
A higher place in heaven is deserved by anyone who can find my HUGHES family in the 1851 census!!!!!!  I have literally put in over two hundred hours on this one quest, and I have searched all over the Wales counties.

Like all seekers, I have tried every combination of the name Hughes, I've searched just the Harriets, just the Thomases, just the Sarahs, etc.  I have always come up with nothing!!!!  I even searched England....thinking they might have slipped over the border to see relatives or friends there......still nothing!!!
I do not know Sarah's maiden name.....have sent for birth certificates and hope they will reveal more information.

These are my 3x great grandparents and are found in the 1861 census in Aberdare.  At that time they had daughters, Harriet, age 15, Ann, age 11, and two younger girls:
Father: Thomas Hughes, 42, fireman, born Carmarthenshire, Pembrey
Mother: Sarah, 33, born Glamorganshire, Lantwit
Daughter: Harriet, 15, born Glamorganshire, Baglan
Daughter: Ann, 11, born Glamorganshire, Margam
        and two other girls

In 1867, the family emigrated to the U.S. and I have documented most all of them from 1870 to 2007.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1920s telephone book Aigburth Vale
« on: Monday 01 January 07 21:20 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone has access to a telephone book (late teens or early 20s) for Liverpool.....Aigburth Vale, in particular, I would appreciate an address look-up.  My great aunt and uncle lived in Aigburth Vale and my mother remembered going to their house every Christmas. I now have found a cousin who is able to go to Aigburth Vale and take some pictures.  It would be wonderful if we had the house number and street name....actually have a picture of their house!!!!

Their names: Alexandra and James Holden

If you know of another way to find their address, please educate me!!

Glamorganshire / Hughes Family in Aberdare
« on: Friday 01 December 06 22:45 GMT (UK)  »
I am completely stuck!!!!!!  I have a family in the 1861 census and cannot find any trace of them in the 1851 census.
            *********************
Thomas Hughes, 42, fireman, b Carmarthenshire, Pembrey
Sarah Hughes, 33, b Glamorgan, looks like Lantwit
Harriet Hughes 15, b Glamorgan, Baglan
Ann Hughes, 11, b Glamorgan, Margam
Elizabeth Hughes, 9, b Glamorgan, Margam
Sarah Hughes, 3, b Glamorgan, Aberdare
               *****************
I would like to find:
   1) the 1851 census page for this family,
2)a marriage record for Thomas and Sarah (about 1846)
3)a birth record for any or all the girls, especially Elizabeth, my
        great grandmother

I have had no luck searching Ancestry.com or the IGI index, so any
help will be very much appreciated.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Hordley Parish.....WILLIAMS family 1851
« on: Monday 29 August 05 20:26 BST (UK)  »
My WILLIAMS family was found in the Hordley parish of Shropshire in 1861.  Henry and Ann were the parents, and I am especially hoping to find their daughter, Harriet, born about 1847 in Bagely, in the 1851 census.

I'm sure someone will find them...and earn a higher place in heaven!!!!   Thank you.
