Glamorganshire / Evans the Drapers
« on: Monday 21 November 16 13:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
Looking for any information regarding Drapers shops in the valleys run/owned by any one by the surname Evans. I know that members of my family had shops in Pontypridd,Merthyr,Newport, and
Newbridge. I'm curious to find out more detail regarding the above and whether any one can expand on the above. Also curious if there are any descendants of Evans the Drapers still living  there or anywhere really?

Flintshire / Griffiths in Holt?
« on: Sunday 12 October 08 21:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Looking for any info. on Elinor Griffiths[b.1857,Nantcwnlle Parish,Cardiganshire] and also possibly her brother Daniel[b.1860,same Parish]

I don't know a great deal about Elinor other than in the Methodist Chapel records in Bwlchllan[home village] she is recorded as.....'Let go to Holt'.I can only presume that she moved to Holt and that a letter of introduction and recommendation went with her to Holt Methodist Chapel?I don't think she returned home as there is no record of her being interred with her family.

Daniel comes into the scene as there is also a mention in the Chapel records that he was ......'Received from Holt'.However I know he was buried at home.

I seek any knowledge of these and their connection to Holt and would welcome anything that might throw some light.

Thankyou,brawd houdini

Wales / Sam the Carter-Llanybydder,Cwrtnewydd and ?
« on: Sunday 12 October 08 21:32 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Searching for Samuel Davies[Sam the carter].He was born in Llanybydder[Carmarthenshire] in 1838.He was married to Elizabeth and they had 7 children all born in Cwrtnewydd in the Parish of Llanwennog,County Cardiganshire.I have him and his family in various locations in Cwrtnewydd in 1861 and 1871,but by 1881 he and his wife have disappeared leaving 5 of their children in a private boarding school run by Elizabeth Rees.

The info. that I seek is what happened to him and his wife to leave the children here?I can find no sign of them in the Censuses, could they have emigrated, thinking to send for the children when they were settled or is it simply the case that they both passed away?

Also anything on any of his siblings- Mary[b.1828],David[b.1831],Sarah[b.1834] and John[b.1840] all born Llanybydder and his parents-John and Rachel.

Thankyou,Diolch yn fawr,

World War One / Pembrokeshire yeomanry
« on: Monday 15 September 08 21:27 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for information on the Pembrokeshire Yeomanry-History and what became of them,ie did they merge into a different regiment, etc. Please forgive my ignorance as regards military matters-I don't know my Regiments from my battalions.

Several of my relations[from different lines] served in the Yeomanry, andI draw a blank every time when I try to access their records through the National Archives.I could understand if I drew a blank with one person, but several?

Anyway, here they are,I would be very grateful if anybody could find anything at all about their service. All survived the War.

John Griffiths,b.1894,Parish of Nantcwnlle.I believe he served in Egypt,Palestine and France.

Simon Evans,b.1888,Parish of Llanwennog.

John Evans,b.1890,Parish of Llanwennog {i,m not 100% certain he was in the Yeomanry}

Samuel Vernon Evans,b.1890,Parish of Llanwennog.I believe he carried the rank of Sergeant, and that he rode his own personal horse. He certainly served in Palestine because he returned from there with a wreath for his brother's grave. His brother had passed away whilst he was at war,and this wreath protected by a glass dome still adorns his brother's grave.

The latter 3 were all brothers by the way.
