Kincardineshire / James Longmuir and Katharine / Christina Mollison
« on: Tuesday 16 May 17 18:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm descended from James Longmuir (Glenbervie 1790 - ?) and Elspet Mason (? - ?).

I know that James Longmuir had an illegitimate child with Katharine Molyson as recorded in the Kirk Session for Arbuthnott.

December the Thirteenth (1807), The Kirk Session being called met and constituted compeared Katharine Molyson, an unmarried woman presently warding in the parish of Kineff but late servant to George Molyson Tenant in Cloak in this parish, and judicially confessed that she was with child to James Longmuir servant to the said George Molyson, and that the guilt was contracted in this parish. The said James Longmuir who attended the session at the same time being asked whether he judicially acknowledged himself the father of the child the said Katharine was pregnant with: answered in the affirmative and both the aforesaid persons having declared their willingness to submit to censure by appearing thrice several Sabbaths before the congregation, they were exhorted by the Minister and the said Katharine Molyson was defined to begin her public appearance next Sabbath.

Haven't had much luck tracing their daughter who was baptised Margaret.

Q1. Have found a burial for a James Longmuir in 1834 in Arbroath. Can anyone advise how I can research this further to determine whether or not this is my James Longmuir?

Q2. Have found a death certificate for a Christina Longmuir, widow of ? and daughter of George Mollison. Could this Christina Mollison / Longmuir be the same person? My gut feeling is yes. Died 1862 aged 70 meaning born 1792 so having illegitimate child at age 15 may not be out of the question albeit census records indicate she (Christina) was born circa 1784 which fits. Also have the inventory for Christina Mollison which sheds no light as to who she is, her nephew turns out to be totally unrelated. Any help in unravelling this one appreciated.

I'm descended from William McAulley, S/O Alexander and Ladie Davidson born 10/9/1785 Resolis, Ross and Cromarty. William died 9/12/1856 in Lumphanan and was married to Mary Milne, date unknown.

My line comes through their daughter Elspet however I'm looking for information on the other children before I go to GROS to look for Marriage and Death Certs but the surname variant is getting the better of me ~ McAulley, McCauly, McAulay, MacAulay & McAulley.

Children I'm interested in are, all born Waulkmill, KON:

Margaret 27/11/1819
William 12/9/1825
Andrew 24/8/1827
Christian 17/2/1830
Robert 9/4/1833

Many thanks.

Aberdeenshire / Looking for James Arbuthnot Smith

Looking for any information on James Arbuthnot Smith, my Gt Gt Grandfathers Brother. He was the son of John Smith and Mary Ogston and was born at Invernettie on 10th June 1850. His mother died in 1851 and his father remarried a Helen Morice / Morris before he passed away in 1861. The last record that I have is in the 1861 Census when he is staying at Burnhaven with his step-grandfather Andrew Morrice. Any information would be appreciated as census searches on Ancestry turn up numerous James Smith's born in Peterhead circa 1850.

I am descended from a John Longmuir and Ann Brand who were married on October 23rd 1790 in the Parish of Glenbervie. OPR for Fordoun (16th Oct 1790) states "John Longmuir in this Parish and Ann Brand in the Parish of Glenbervy (Glenbervie) were proclaimed in order to marriage and their names having been regularly proclaimed in the church they were married the 23rd thereafter at Glenbervy". Unfortunately I am having a problem trying to work out who the parents of John Longmuir were. Assuming that he was approximately 20 years of age, and assuming that his birth was recorded in the OPR I come up with John Longmuir born 8/5/1769 Benholm, John Longmoor 24/2/1770 Glenbervie or John Longmoor 21/5/1771 Fetteresso. Have found 2 John Longmuirs of the approximate age in the 1841 Census but both dead before start of death records in 1855. I would very much appreciate if anyone can give me any clues, advice  or point me in the right direction to finding John Longmuir's parents.

Regards

Andy Longmuir
