« on: Thursday 03 December 15 18:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Australian Rootschatters,

James Joseph McCormick was born in Belfast to William McCormick and his wife Mary (probably Curran ).His date and place of death (as above) is recorded on his parents headstone in Milton Cemetery in Belfast.
I'm wondering if any of you good folk may have access to historical Sydney newspapers that may give more information on how James Joseph died.

Many thanks,
Maggie

Ireland / GRONI records to On-line November 2013

Rootschatters,

This is message that was sent out to civil servants earlier this week.

General Register Office (GRO)

NI Direct has been working alongside another area of DFP – GRONI to develop a service whereby the public can search, select and purchase Genealogy records online. Previously this service was only available through a face to face visit to the office in Belfast – the ability to extend the service to users at a time and location that suits them will allow the service to become available to a worldwide customer group in an improved and convenient way.  This is expected to be available from November 2013

Durham / William Harland and family
« on: Sunday 21 October 12 14:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootchaters,

Trying to find out more about William his wife Annie and their children.

William and his family are in Belfast in 1901 this is their census return:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Down/Victoria/Frome_Street/1218111/

On the transcript William is shown as born Yorkshire, Annie from Co Fermanagh and their elder children are shown as being born in Durham. I'm making an assumption that the couple were maybe also married in Durham.

I'd be really interested in the marriage details of the couple particularly Annie's maiden name and the names of their fathers.

Many thanks,

Mags

US Lookup Requests / Vivian B. Schildwachter
« on: Monday 05 March 12 19:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi US chatters,

Hoping somebody can help me find out about Vivian.

She's the grand daughter of John Ballentine who emigrated from Belfast, County Antrim to Manhatten and subsequently moved to Brooklyn - this is the link to a previous thread on which I received an incredible amount of info, especially from Sandra -

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,481230.0.html

Vivian's mother was Margaretta Ballentine and her father was Otto Schildwachter.

On 29 December an announcement was made in the Long Island Star, Thursday December 29 1938, of the engagement of Vivian to Douglas Jennings Muncie, son of Dr Curtis H Muncie, of Kings Point Road and Mrs Louise K Muncie of Brooklyn.

I've discovered that in recent years Dr Curtis has been accused of medical "quackery" and he that made a fortune for a supposed revolutionary cure for deafness during the great depression -his son Douglas appears to have endorsed his work.

I can't find a marriage between Vivian and Douglas but have found on the IGI what is I believe are 2 divorces relating to Douglas from women other than Vivian.

Would love to know what happened to Vivian after her engagement to Douglas.

Thanks

Mags

Lanarkshire / William Wilson and Sarah Boyd
« on: Saturday 12 November 11 18:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Scottish rootschatters,

Trying to track down William Wilson and Sarah Boyd.

They married in County Antrim NI (Buckna Pres) on 22/1/1880. I've been able to trace most of Sarah's family to the Glasgow area and have found a daughter -  Jeanie Wilson in the 1911 census aged 22 living with her uncle and aunt, Robert McSeveney and Rose (Boyd ) Easter Row Shotts Dykehead.

I think that William and Sarah may have followed the family trend of moving to Scotland because I can find nothing on them in Ireland.

Any advice on how I might use the Scottish records to help would be appreciated. Have looked at Scotlands people but the names I'm looking at are so common it would cost a fortune!.

Many thanks,

Margaret

Pembrokeshire / Henry Johnston Lynn
« on: Thursday 20 October 11 21:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

Trying to get some information on the birth of Henry Johnston Lynn.

He is associated with an Anglo/Irish family family based in Wexford, Ireland. He joined the Preventative Service - pre runner of the Coast Guard - in Wexford - and gave his birth place as Pembrook(sic). I'm told by a Coastguard historian that he must have been from a "high status family" as he entered the service as an officer.

I'm not familiar with Welsh records and would appreciate information of where to look for a possible birth/baptism registration. In Ireland the family give their religion as Church of Ireland so I'm assuming that in Wales the family may be C of E.

Any advice much appreciated,

Thanks,

Margaret
