I was wondering if anyone who lives in Slough would be able to take a photo of this war memorial.
I was recently told of it on Rootschat, but there doesn't appear to be a photo of it on the website which describes it.
There is quite a bit of information on the memorial itself, and maybe if someone could take a photo we could submit it online for others.

I believe it is in St May's Church.

The memorial was designed by Alfred Young Nutt, who was my Gt Gt Grandfather's younger brother.

Thank you!

Essex Lookup Requests / Essex Kelly's Directory 1933 Lookup Request
« on: Thursday 01 September 16 22:57 BST (UK)  »
I understand there may have been a 1933 copy of Kelly's Directory for Essex, and I wonder if anyone could please lookup an item for me.

My grandfather, Ernest Hugh Nutt,  lived at Oakley Farm Thundersley Common in 1939. There was a catalogue for the sale of Oakley farm in 1931 but I do not know when he went there between those dates.

I would be very grateful if anyone could help me.

Thank you

The Common Room / Harold Norman Nutt. Will "Resealed Sidney N.S.W."
« on: Wednesday 24 August 16 16:44 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone could explain a line in a probate entry on Ancestry.

I have a relation who died on War Service (Harold Norman Nutt). I know that he was in the  Australian Naval Reserves, but did not have any knowledge of him living or having property there. As far as I knew he travelled between the UK and Australia before the war, he lived in London. I have not been able to research Australian records.

The probate record states probate was granted to his sister on 1st November 1943 in Llandudno. But followed by the words "Resealed in Sidney N.S.W. 20th March 1944".

Does this mean anything or was it just "a rubber stamp" thing.

Thank you

After the Spitfire crashed, my grandfather turned the land into a Nursery. I would like to ask for your help again if I may.
Thank you

In 1940 my Grandfather had a poultry farm in Thundersley Essex.
Unfortunately in November 1940 a Spitfire crashed on it, and most of the chickens on the farm were lost.
I have come across some very old photo's, which I wonder if anyone can help me restore.
Thank you very much.

World War Two / Spitfire N3164 of 222 Sqn Crash on 8th Nov 1940
« on: Monday 22 August 16 07:09 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Through the wonder of the Internet,  I have found a little information on the above Spitfire and it's pilot who crashed on 8th November 1940  I now now the pilot was a Sgt R A Breeze. He did survive the crash..

My grandfather owned Oakley Poultry Farm, in Thundersley Essex. The story in the family is that my grandfather 'cleared' a very high fence to help get the pilot out. Sadly the hens did not have the same luck. For some reason that day they had not been let out, and they perished in the resulting fire. After that date the farm was turned into a nursery and my grandfather grew tomatoes etc. It was called Oakley Nurseries from then.

I was wondering if any RC members, who have RAF interests could find any more information of that day.

Thank you.

The Lighter Side / Book Inscriptions
« on: Wednesday 03 August 16 10:38 BST (UK)  »
My brother has a book table in his cafe, where he raises money for the local hospice.

Two books that have been handed in have the following inscriptions

The first book is "In search of Scotland" by H.V. Morton

To Marion, My Dearest Beloved Sweetheart and Wife,
As a small memento for making me so very happy on 3 weeks of great joy and happiness -
With heartfelt gratitude and Deepest Love and affection.
Your ever loving & all adoring Husband Peter.
March 26th 1943 - April 14th 1943.

The second book is "In Scotland Again" by H.V. Morton.

To the Dearest of all Husbands on his 23rd Birthday,
Wishing you Darling very many happy returns and here's hoping it will be the last away from home, with deepest love and fondest affection.
Your devoted and ever loving wife, Marion.
February 3rd '45

I hope Peter made it through the war, and he and Marion had a long and happy life together.

(No surnames so I can't trace them or living relatives).

Technical Help / Microsoft Agreements
« on: Sunday 31 July 16 08:37 BST (UK)  »
I have today received an email from Microsoft telling me about changes from 2nd August and 15th September.
Which I think is when updates to Windows 10 are expected.
I have had a look at the pages of writing, which don't mean much to me!
However there is a section on Third Party Programs, which I take as Family Historian etc.
I am just wondering if there is anything in there we should be aware of, if there is anyone who reads these things and understands them!

The Common Room / Leicestershire Villages Website Closing
« on: Thursday 28 July 16 12:23 BST (UK)  »
I have received an email telling me that the Leicestershire Villages Website will be switched off on 1st September 2016.

The council are not renewing the contract, and recommends that "If there is any information that you need to keep, please save it to your own computer as soon as possible, before that date."

http://www.leicestershirevillages.com/

Over the years I have had some very helpful information and discussions from other users who have had family history links with Leicestershire.

Sorry to see it go...
