Canada Lookup Request / James Gawley, died 1970 Saskatchewan, Canada
« on: Sunday 11 September 22 02:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
Could anyone help find death or marriage records for James Gawley who died in 1970, Saskatchewan Canada please?

He was born in Ireland and his parents died in Ireland. His mother may be Elizabeth who died in Northern Ireland. Possible spouse may be Gertrude Molloy (she is listed as mother of a living person whose father is James Gawley but they aren't connected as a spouse).

My mother recently got her DNA results and found out her father isn't who she thought it was. We have a good idea who the biological father could be and after tracing his family tree there are possible links with DNA matches (surnames Watt, Mercer, Gawley)

The only DNA matches on the paternal side are inactive accounts with very bare trees. The only link I have to connect with our family tree is James Gawley died 1970 Canada who is listed on a few shared matches. I'm trying to see if he connects with the Sarah Jane Gawley, born abt 1860 Tyrone, Ireland and her father James Gawley on our family tree.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm bit lost at the moment!
Thank you :)

England / Father's Place of Birth on Certificate?
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 03:01 BST (UK)  »
I have recently ordered the birth certificate from GRO for William Henry Richardson, born in 1849 in Camberwell. I am 99.9% certain that his father is Thomas Richardson born abt 1820 in Scotland.

Does anyone know if the certificate is likely to list the county in Scotland where his father was born?

Many thanks,
Carla

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Can't Find in Census - Cox/Cocks
« on: Tuesday 23 June 09 06:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'm hoping someone with good detective skills could help me locate a family in the 1841, 1851 or 1861 census.

I have Sarah Cox (possibly Cocks) in the 1871 census one year after she married William Underwood. Her estimated birth year is 1849 and her place of birth is listed as Rassaw, Essex, England.

By the 1881 census she is still with William Underwood and another four children. Her year of birth is listed as 1851 and birth place is Plaistow, Essex, England.

The wedding certificate for Sarah Cocks and William Underwood in 1870 lists her father as Joseph Cocks (deceased). However the birth certificate (22 March 1851) is listed in the name of Sarah Cox, born 2 Terry Row, Plaistow, Essex on 22 March 1851. Her parents are listed as Joseph Cox (Occupation: Coachman) and Mary Ann nee Beazley.

Sarah died a couple of months after the 1881 census in West Ham, Essex.

By finding Sarah and her parents in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census, I'm hoping to find out when and where Joseph and Mary Ann were born and confirm the spelling of the surname.

The marriage records for Joseph and Mary Ann Beazley in 1844 lists his surname as Cocks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Carla

The Common Room / Wife Not Listed on Marriage Record
« on: Friday 12 June 09 02:52 BST (UK)  »
For so long now I've been trying to locate a marriage between Thomas Richardson and Hannah Strudwick around 1840 in Surrey. I have recently discovered a record for Thomas Richardson in the  FreeBMD Marriage Index but no wife is listed.

Name:     Thomas Richardson
Year of Registration:    1841
Quarter of Registration:    Jan-Feb-Mar
District:    Epsom
County:    Surrey
Volume:    4
Page:    85

Does anyone know how I can find out the name of his spouse? If I order the certificate will it show the name and all other details?

Many thanks,
Carla

England / Completely Lost! Can't find Marriage Details
« on: Thursday 02 April 09 03:41 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I’ve been trying to locate the marriage details for Hannah Strudwick and Thomas Richardson without success. I’m so desperate that I’m close to hiring a genealogist in London to research this for me. But thought I’d give it another shot before I do.

I know Hannah Strudwick was born in 1816 in Wisborough Green but it’s believed her family moved to Camberwell before 1826. Thomas Richardson was born in 1820 in Scotland and moved to England before 1841 when he first appears on the census with Hannah at St Giles, Camberwell with their first son, Thomas, who was born in 1839.

Hannah had a child, John Edward Strudwick, in 1834. In 1841 he was living with Thomas and Elizabeth Strudwick, now believed to be Hannah’s parents. Hannah is listed on his birth records with no father listed. Although unlikely, it is possible Hannah was previously married to a Strudwick, but I, along with others researching this family, believe John was born out of wedlock and her first marriage was to Thomas Richardson.

As I haven't found anything after 1837, I’ve been trying to search parish records. As I live in Australia I need to rely on online sources.

Is anyone able to do a lookup, recommend online sources or provide any advice?

Many thanks,
Carla

Surrey Lookup Requests / Marriage Lookup - Richardson & Strudwick
« on: Friday 27 March 09 00:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
Is anyone able to lookup the marriage between Thomas Richardson and Hannah Strudwick? The only information I have to go on is their first child, Thomas, was born in 1839.

Many thanks,
Carla

I've posted this request in the Surrey section because the 1841 census showed they were living at St Giles, Camberwell, Surrey. But the forum index shows Camberwell under London & Middlesex. Should this post be moved?

Scotland / Help! Five Possbile Matches
« on: Wednesday 25 March 09 04:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I’m struggling to find any further information for Thomas Richardson, born 1820 in Scotland. By the 1841 England Census, he had moved to St Giles, Camberwell, Surrey, was living with his wife and first son. His occupation was listed as a Watch Gilder.

I have narrowed down his parents to five possible matches on Scotlands People.

1   06/09/1819   RICHARDSON   THOMAS   ALEXANDER RICHARDSON/CHRISTIAN WILSON FR292   U   Humbie   /EAST LOTHIAN
2   25/06/1819   RICHARDSON   THOMAS   THOMAS RICHARDSON/MARGARET SHORTREAD FR665   M   GALASHIELS   /SELKIRK
3   26/06/1819   RICHARDSON   THOMAS   WILLIAM RICHARDSON/MARGARET HEWITSON FR470   M   Lochmaben   /DUMFRIES
4   16/04/1820   RICHARDSON   THOMAS   JAMES RICHARDSON/JANET TURNBUL FR971   M   Inverkeithing   /FIFE
5   11/04/1820   RICHARDSON   THOMAS   JOHN RICHARDSON/MARY RAE FR410   M   Graitney or Gretna   /DUMFRIES

I have tried researching these families in the attempt of discovering a link to my Thomas Richardson without success.
I would love to hear any suggestions on how I can find the parents of Thomas Richardson.

Thank you,
Carla

Kilkenny / Patrick Norman and Catherine Dollard
« on: Sunday 11 January 09 11:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I haven’t had much luck finding information for my Great Great Grandfather, Patrick Norman who according to records was born in Kilkenny around 1847.  His parents are listed as Martin and Catherine (no maiden name listed).

I found a Patrick Norman born in 1846 on the Rothe House Trust website (screenshot attached) which shows the parents as Patrick Norman and Catherine Dollard. I know the details don’t match but I’m hoping it’s a possibility so I’m trying to trace Patrick and Catherine so I can either confirm or rule them out.

Does anyone know how I can find these people as I'm running into yet another brickwall!

Many thanks,
Carla
