I've been told that my 2xgreat grandparents William Russell (a shoemaker) and Agnes Gilchrist Wilson were married at Lamberton Toll.  One suggested date is 10th March 1849.  I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to look it up for me since I don't have access to those records?  As far as I know Agnes was born in Berwick Upon Tweed but William only gives Scotland as his birthplace in the censuses.

Derry (Londonderry) / Dennison/McArthur
« on: Wednesday 23 September 09 09:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm researching the family of Dennison who appear to have come from Lower Cumber.  My 2xgreat grandfather was William Dennison (born in Ireland c1834) who married Agnes Allison (born in Ayreshire 1838) the marriage took place in Baillieston, near Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland on 5th June 1857.  Their first child, Margaret Dewar Dennison was born in Baillieston and the family moved to County Durham, England where their other 8 children were born.

William's parents were Patrick (or Peter) Dennison and Margaret McArthur and they had 5 children in addition to William; Margaret b 1835 at Lower Cumber, Mary b 1839 also at Lower Cumber, Alexander b c1844, Mathew b c1844 and Catherine b 1847 at Lower Cumber.  Alexander also moved to County Durham and at some point, possibly after her husband's death, Margaret McArthur moved there too because she is found living in the households of both William and Alexander in different censuses.

I should like to trace the Irish line and to find more about this family's time in Ireland and the circumstances of their leaving and am keen to exchange information with anyone sharing the same family lines.

Regards
Den

Tyrone / Nellie Edgar
« on: Friday 18 September 09 12:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Does anyone remember a lady called Nellie Edgar visiting family in County Tyrone from County Durham, ENG at least once a year up until the late 1970's?

Nellie was my mother's cousin and the families she would have visited would have been Edgar, Murphy or Dougall (various spellings).

I'm trying to research our Ulster roots and if anyone remembers her and the families she visited it would be great to hear from you.

Tyrone / Murphy/Dougall Orritor Presbyterian Church
« on: Tuesday 08 September 09 09:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm looking for leads on Robert Murphy and Eleanor Dougall who married 9th Dec 1869 at the Orritor Presbyterian Church in Kildress parish and their forebears.

Both Robert and Eleanor's fathers were farmers called Thomas.  Robert's abode is given as Ballynasollus and Eleanor's as Killycurragh at the time of their marriage.

They then moved to England and their first child was born there in 1871 but their next child was baptised in Cookstown, Tyrone in 1872.  The last 5 of their children were all born in England.

I know absolutely nothing else about their ancestry and am hoping someone might just have that one clue which can start me on their trail.

Thanks,
Den

Norfolk / 3rd Norfolks and Boer War
« on: Sunday 02 August 09 09:20 BST (UK)  »
Any ideas on where I can find information regarding muster rolls/service records of the 3rd Norfolks during the Boer War.  I have a photo showing Frederick William Britton/Brittain wearing the Queen's & King's Boer War medals and would like to learn more.  He re-enlisted for WWI and was transferred to the 10th Battalion, Border Regiment and was killed in France in 1918.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
