London and Middlesex / Charles Chapman - Lambeth...HELP
« on: Wednesday 13 July 11 13:30 BST (UK)  »
I have managed to discover all my other lines of family except my mothers paternal one and I am hoping someone can help.

My Grandfather was a Charles Chapman who lives in Streatham in his old age. I don't know when he was born but when I checked the deaths for Lambeth it returned 2 who both died in 2001. These were a Charles Chapman and a Charles William Chapman, I don't know which one was him.

He was never married to my maternal grandmother when they had my mother who was born in Mitchum in 1951/52. My grandmother was born Ellen Morrow but may have used the name Chapman, she died in 1992 in Oxford and her surname was Caithcart at the time of her death.

I have no family alive with any details, so could anyone advise me on what I should do.

Your help would be appreciatd.

Ireland / John Morrow - Ellen Marshall
« on: Tuesday 31 August 10 20:04 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I have 2 ancestors who was married to each other John Morrow b around 1843 in Ireland and Ellen Marshall who became Morrow b around 1850 in Ireland. They came up in 1891 PAISLEY CENSUS in Scotland, District number 573/1 Schedule 119. As their oldest daughter was born in England I believe they must of went to England before they settled in Scotland.

They came from Ireland but I have hit nothing dead ends in finding out what part of Ireland. I am also finding it impossible to find out when and where they died.
What part of Ireland is Morrow most common? And would I find out the information I am looking for?

Europe / Johannes Dietlein - Germany?
« on: Tuesday 31 August 10 19:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello I have an ancestor named Johannes Dietlein b 1767 d March 1847 in Parish of St James, Dover. He must of came to England around 1800 and his name was later anglisized to Datlen.

First off is his surname likely to be German, Dutch or Austrian?
Secondly his first name is Hebrew in origin. Is it likely he was a Jew?

Lastly he came up in census returns as Adam Datlen with an "f" for foreign subject. How would I find his place of birth? Would I need to find a passenger list, if so from where?
