Midlothian / Peter Kerr of Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland
« on: Tuesday 20 July 21 05:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

I'm hoping someone could help me.

Peter Kerr was born around 1818 in Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland. (This information is from both the 1851 census & his daughter's birth certificate.

in 1841 he is residing out of county in Old Monkland, Lanark.  working is an ag lab. Surname is given as Keir and age is given as 25

When he married Margaret Brown of Kirkintilloch in 1845, his residing in Govan, Glasgow. This where the marriage took place.

On the 1851 census he is residing with his wife Margaret and 3 children, Hugh (5), James (3) & Peter (1).
His age is given as 30 occupation Cowfeeder & Farmer.

The family moved to Australia in 1852 and this is where their daughter Mary Jane was born in 1854.
Young Peter from the census died and another Peter was born to the family in 1852 before the family moved.
I have looked at Scotlandspeople but cannot find a Peter born within the time period in Ratho.

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on where else to look.

Cheers

« on: Wednesday 03 October 18 09:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi

My 2 Gould families are a brick wall, I'm hoping someone can help me breakdown.

The 1st Gould is my 3rd Great Grandfather (Maternal side)- Robert Goold/Gould born circa 1783 died Feb 1857
He married Frances Irvin/Irwin(circa 1790) 8th May 1818.
Marriage indicates they were both from Drumy.

I descend from their 4th child Robert Gould who was born circa 1824 and died 5th Oct 1887 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

I would really like to try and find Robert snr's & Frances Irvin's birth and parents.

The 2nd Gould is my 3rd Great Grandfather (Paternal side) - Thomas Gould born circa 1784 Drummellen, Fermanagh. (Army service record)
He was convicted at Roscommon in March 1825 and came to NSW on the "Sir Godfrey Webster" in 1826.
He married Ellen/Elinor Overland Married  1805 by the Rev Mr Maguire PP of Drummully County Fermanagh (Application to bring wife & children to NSW - 1st May 1826) Elinor and children (excluding eldest daughter Ellen) arrived on "Sir Joseph Banks" in 1828.
I descend from his 4th Child Mary Ann Gould/Gold who was baptised 29th Nov 1816, resided Bellahullagh.

I would love to find their marriage, births and parents.

Hoping someone can assist me.

Westmorland / Gerrard Rawes - Beetham
« on: Sunday 13 September 15 04:20 BST (UK)  »

Hi All

I'm trying to go backwards but finding it difficult to find proof.  I'm hoping someone may be able to either help me or point me in the right direction.

What I know:-

Robert RAWS/RAWES (Rose) baptised 8/10/1780 in Beetham married Sarah Levens  5/5/1806 Kendal, Westmorland

Robert was the son of Gerrard RAWES and Margaret CANNON .

Gerrard & Margaret married 6/11/1773 Burton, Westmorland.

I believe Gerrard (Jarret/Gerard) was the son of Gerrard RAWES/RAWS and Elizabeth POTTER and was baptised in Orton 5 Mar 1748.
But I can't find any proof.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Hi All

Hoping for some help.

John Erskine born circa 1811 Krikcudbright married Margaret Maben born Circa 1811
on 20 March 1834
I have found birth records for the following children:-
Mary born 24 April 1835 deceased ?
Mary born 1 March 1836
Jane born 10 Sep 1838 died Bendigo Victoria Australia 1924
Ellen born 24 Jul 1840

Samuel born 22 Dec 1843 deceased ?
Samuel born 26 Jan 1845
John born 4 Feb 1846 died 16th May 1915
Margaret born 23 Aug 1850

Margaret Erskine nee Maben died prior to the 1851 census
John Erskine married Catherine Sayers in 1851
He died in 17 Mar 1853.

I can't find Margaret's exact date of Death.  I'd also like to find who her parents are, I believe her father is James Maben.

Samuel & John Erskine are living with their Uncle James McCleave & Aunt Mary McCleave nee Erskine in 1861.  John continues to reside with the family, he marries Mary Ann ? 1894 and his cousin Ellen McCleave is living with the family in 1901.
Would like to know what happened to Samuel.

The youngest child Margaret is living with her Aunt Jane Maben in 1861 and with both Jane and her widowed Aunt Isabella Morton nee Maben in 1871.  In 1881 Margaret is a Dressmaker and still living in St Cuthbert St Kirkcudbright.
Not Sure what happens to her after 1881

I have not been able to find what happened to Mary or Ellen.   If anyone could shed any light it would be much appreciated.

Hi

I am trying to locate the marriage of Theophilus PITT & Alicia ?. They married circa 1817.
I'm assuming it was in Dublin as that's where the children have been baptised.
The baptisms come from Ancestry "Ireland, Select Catholic Births & Baptisms Registers 1763-1912"

Children:-
Eleanor 9 Feb 1818 Westland Row, Dublin
Maria 6 Feb 1820 Westland Row, Dublin
Catherine born circa 1823 (the only baptism I can't locate)
Thomas 28 Dec 1824 Westland Row, Dublin
Margaret 6 Jun 1827 Westland Row, Dublin

The family came to Australia in 1828, on the 'Greenoch'. Theophilus died 1829 in Hobart.
He was born Circa 1795 and Alicia Circa 1800.

I'd appreciate any help or advice.

cheers
