Canada / Emigration form UK - William George Bloomfield
« on: Monday 26 February 24 10:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a William George Bloomfield (born 1880, Newport, Wales) who marries in 1914 in Ontario, Canada to a Mabel P Thomas (born 1889, Aberystwyth, Wales).

I would like to establish if they went out together or met in Canada etc but cannot find any records of their emigration to Canada. William left the Royal Navy sometime after 1906 so cannot have emigrated before that date which gives a window of approximately 1906 to 1914.

I can see that they are still in Canada in 1931 with a growing family of five children.

Thanks,
Paul

Other Countries / Agnes Cartwright - Marriage in Calcutta 1903
« on: Saturday 17 February 24 14:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

I have an Agnes Cartwright (born 1877) who marries a George T Lane in Calcutta. India in 1903. Her father is given as Joshua and deceased at the time of the marriage.
I know that Agnes and George lived in India for some years before returning home to the UK.
I cannot find any matches for Agnes (with father Joshua) in the UK records or any of the Indian record sets that I have been able to access.
I would like to find out something about her life before her marriage to George.
Thanks,
Paul

Lancashire / Death Certificate - Manchester Register Office
« on: Thursday 08 February 24 13:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I wish to apply for a soldiers service record through the National Archives. They require proof of death if he was born less than 115 years ago. His DoB was September 1911 so I will need an official certificate. I know that he died in Manchester in 1992 and FreeBMD indicates the volume and page. However, I dont have a full date of death and the online ordering system requires this information.
Any ideas please?

Lancashire / Manchester Electoral Registers
« on: Saturday 27 January 24 16:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

As someone who has not visited Manchester for many years could anyone give me an idea of how to access the electoral registers?

I doubt that they would be available on-line so I guess that they are all held at the reference library?

Thanks,
Paul

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Ronald James McDonnell
« on: Saturday 27 January 24 10:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I originally posted a request for help on the Midlothian board as I had guessed that my man was from Scotland but hit a blank.
What I do know is that he was living at 68 Wilbraham Road, Fallowfield, Manchester 14 in 1946 and I was hoping that someone with access to electoral registers etc may be able to provide some additional information.
Ronald James McDonnell was a career soldier having joined a Scottish territorial regiment as early as 1928 and then the regular army in 1933. He won an award in 1946 and this was posted to the address above.
Thanks,
Paul

Midlothian / Ronald James McDonnell
« on: Thursday 25 January 24 14:40 GMT (UK)  »
Firstly, this is a long shot as I dont have a date or place of birth. However, ff you bear with me you will see why I have posted here.

Ronald James McDonnell joined the territorial army in 1928 and the regular army in 1933. Assuming that he was at least 16 in 1928 its fairly safe to say that he is no longer alive. He joined a regiment that was based in Edinburgh and, with his name, I am guessing that he was born in Scotland. A search of FindMyPast has not helped so I was hoping that others might have access to Scottish or other records.
Its not a common full name and I think that he retired from the army in the mid 1950s so its unlikely that he was born much before 1890. This information perhaps opens a DoB window of 1890 to about 1912.

Thanks,
Paul

Buckinghamshire / Eileen Alice Medd - British Red Cross
« on: Wednesday 29 November 23 15:22 GMT (UK)  »
Amongst a number of items I have found some British Red Cross awards to Eileen Alice Medd.
She was a member of The Buckinghamshire Number 68 RC detachment in the 1930's. I have traced her in FindMyPast and now have details of her family etc. Amongst the above items was a box offically addressed to her which contained two Second World War medals and a sheet stating that she was entitled to another two more medals.
However, I cannot find any records of any service beteen 1939 to 1945 and the Red Cross paperwork is only dated from 1931 to 1937.
Any ideas?

Berkshire / Bartonia E Haughton
« on: Friday 11 August 23 13:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,
Researching a distant relative I came across one of his aunts. Bartonia E Haughton born 1830 and living in Windsor in 1891 as a widow.
With such an unusual first name I expected to find more information but there is nothing. She was born in England so where are the earlier census results and her marriage to ....Haughton?
Thanks

London and Middlesex / George Uvedale Price - Early Life
« on: Thursday 27 April 23 09:22 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,

I am undertaking some research about George Uvedale Price (1821 -1891) who rose to the rank of General in the Victorian British Army. I have plenty of information about his life from 1840 when he joined the Army in India but very little about his first 20 years.
I understand that he was born in Roehampton and his father was Richard Price but thats about all I have.
Thanks,
Paul
