Lancashire / Webster Place - anyone with Manchester historical knowledge?
« on: Sunday 12 February 12 20:19 GMT (UK)  »
Apologies I don't know Manchester and googling has not helped.  GGG grandparents lived on Webster Place.....part of the ecclesiastical district of All Souls in the New Cross ward.  I can see approximately where that would be and assume it has long gone [last living there 1871] but would be interested to find any historical information about Webster Place/the area. That line of my family tree gets very complicated at this point, trying to unravel who lived where on a street by street basis!

Staffordshire / Hannah Keen / Benjamin Baker
« on: Sunday 18 December 11 23:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hannah and Benjamin married 28 Aug 1837 in Dudley - their marriage certificate has their fathers as John Keen [Boatsman] and John Baker [Miner].  I cannot find either John without access to West Bromwich registers and, while Benjamin was born in West Bromwich [1819] it now looks like Hannah was born in Oldbury [1821] which may have been [or have become] Worcestershire.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to make a start on one of these??

I am from a long line of Wests who lived in Adderbury.  William West [b. 1769 Adderbury, d. 1849 Adderbury] married Mary Pike away from Adderbury.  Palotts Marriage Index has a marriage between William West/Mary Pike on 2 Sep 1801 in West Hanney.  A baptism entry for one of their children has Mary as from North Moor.

Can anyone look up any parish register information on this marriage to check 2 things.......that it is William West from Adderbury that she married, and would love to known the name of her parents if listed anywhere.

A lot to ask I know.

Completed Census Requests / COMPLETED.....1881 and 1901 census look up - Phoebe Baker
« on: Wednesday 18 February 09 10:58 GMT (UK)  »
Help - cannot find Phoebe Baker in 1881 or 1901:

Phoebe Baker [born 1850/1, West Bromwich], married Joseph Norton [born 1850/1 again] in 1867 [Sep Q].

3 children - James [1867], Emily [1872], Florence [1874].

I have her on:

1851 census - marked as aged 1 in West Bromwich
1861 census - living in Aston, Birmingham
1871 census - living with her father-in-law's family in Smethwick/Harborne....has James with her, no husband Joseph
1881 - cannot find her
1891 - she is a domestic servant in Edgbaston, along with her daughter Emily [as Phebe Baker]
1901 - cannot find her again
1911 - no access so will worry about that another time!

Given that James' birth was registered in the same quarter as his mother and fathers marriage, and Phoebe does not live with Joseph Norton in 1871 or 1891 it may be that this a marriage of convenience.  Needs investigating - mention it because she may turn up in service somewhere without him around.

I have struggled to find Luke Reeve on the 1891 census.

D.o.b 1874 in Rowington, Warks.  He appears in 1881 and 1901 - and then I have his marriage certificate.  No death record either so I also suspect he may have used a middle name rather than Luke.  Understand that he may simply be missing for a variety of reasons but this is a significant date for me to establish.

He was illegimate - mother is Mary [who is also missing from 1891 census and beyond].

He came to live in Birmingham between 1881 and 1901 so could be based at either or working away from home - as was the case for most of the males in his family as they hit that sort of age.

If anyone can shed some light on the above it would be an amazing help.

Based on online access to 1841-1901 censuses I have found a significant number of West descendants in Adderbury East.

I am thinking about a trip to Adderbury if I can get access to local records, partic. parish records....in fact, anything beyond the census headlines.

Does anyone have any insight into my best start point? Looks like there are records at the local library and the Oxford records library.  No reason why I cannot do both but some tips would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheeky question I know but.......I've received emails through the ancestry.co.uk connection service from Hargreaves116 but my replies do not seem to be getting to them - I've sent a message to ancestry's support team but no reply yet.  Anyone have any idea how to find a specific member on ancestry?
