Berkshire / St George's Chapel, Windsor
« on: Sunday 05 April 09 15:50 BST (UK)  »
My curiosity has been aroused after finding a reference to someone with my surname who married at St George's Chapel, New Windsor in 1670. I assume this is the royal chapel associated with the castle (which couldn't have been long repaired following the civil war!).

Does anyone know what sort of people were allowed to be married at the chapel? I assume (maybe incorrectly) it wasn't generally available to any tom, dick, harry or harriet to be splashed, matched or dispatched?

US Lookup Requests / 1860 New York - Kisby lookup request
« on: Thursday 02 October 08 13:30 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone has access to the 1860 US Census and can help. I am looking for a Henry KISBY (and family?) who emigrated to the US in 1852. I have been told he settled in West Troy, Albany, NY. However I have been given conflicting information from my contacts about whether he emigrated with his wife, Ann and daughter Sarah Anne, or whether he emigrated alone (and remarried?). He doesn't seem to appear in the 1880 Census.

Henry was born approx 1828 in Cambridgeshire, England. Ann was born approx 1830 and Sarah Anne around 1849.

One Name Studies: H to M / KISBY, All (GOONS #5000)
« on: Wednesday 01 October 08 23:26 BST (UK)  »
Recently joined the GOONS (great acronym!!), I have been studying my own KISBY family tree for 25 years and have spent the last 12 months diversifying into a more serious One Name Study. So far I have a steadily growing list of well over 1200 KISBY's (plus many KISBEE's, KISBEY's, KESBY's etc) spread over 3 continents and five centuries.

The KISBY's could generally be found in the Fenland areas of Eastern England (not too many miles from the hamlet of Keisby, Lincs). However, there were also significant pockets of KISBY's in Kent. KISBY also exists as a surname in Denmark, originating from a small village of that name on the Denmark/Germany border.

Would love to hear from anyone with KISBY rellies!
