Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / St Michael Stamford burials 1803
« on: Tuesday 08 April 08 04:22 BST (UK)  »
I have the burial dates for a young couple who died within a couple of weeks of each other and I wondered if anyone had a copy of the parish records and could check if there was anything noted about the causes of their deaths.  They were

Henry Tatam died 11 April 1803 age 30
Mary Tatam died 29 April 1803 age 33

They left 4 young children in the care of their grandfather, and I really wonder what they could have died of.

Thanks
Chrissie

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Deaths in Stamford Lincs
« on: Friday 20 July 07 10:39 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have the parish registers for St Michael Stamford.  I have the deaths of Henry Tatam, burial 11 April 1803 age 30 and his wife Mary Tatam buried 29 April 1803 age 33, both appear to buried St Michael, Stamford.  I am wondering if there is anything more in the register about the causes of death for this young couple, or an upsurge in the number of burials at this time indicating some sort of epidemic.  They were survived by their 4 children aged 3-7 years, so what ever they died of, it did not affect the kids.

Clackmannanshire / William Grant from Alloa
« on: Monday 06 March 06 19:47 GMT (UK)  »
I have recently acquired my g-grandfathers WW1 pocket bible and tucked inside is a newspaper cutting, a photo of "the late Lieut William Grant, killed in action"  I wondered who this man was and what his significance to my g-grandfather was.

My g-grandfather, although a New Zealander actually served in the Australian army.  From the bit of information I could glean from the story on the back of the cutting William Grant also appears to have served in the Australian army.

I searched the Commonwealth War Graves site and there was only one Lieut W Grant and his next of kin was given as James Grant, Viewforth, Alloa Scotland.

I have searched the Australian Archives site and ordered this mans records, the little bit of info on line states that he was born in Alloa, but I have no idea when.  It is difficult to judge his age from the photo, they all looked older than they were in those days!

Does anyone have any idea where else I can look to find information?  Are there Scottish census returns that might give me more information?  Is there anyone on this site from Alloa that could see if he appears on a local war memorial?

I imagine that I will never discover just why his photo was so important that it was possibly carried around from Williams date of death in 1916 until my g-grandfather came home in 1918 but I would like to know more about this man.

Thanks

The Common Room / Have I come to the end of the line?
« on: Tuesday 20 December 05 20:17 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry this is a bit long but I will type what I have on the family.  I am attempting to trace my grandmother's adoptive family which is possibly also her birth family as I suspect she was adopted by her birth father's youngest sister but they are proving to be very difficult.  They are Irish, do not seem keen on filling in official documents and also appear to lie a lot!

The parents are Jeremiah Corkery and Mary Hurley/Herdley.  I believe that they married in England about 1860ish, going by information on Mary's death certificate.  They are not the couple who married in Staines in 1881.

In 1861 they are living in Cranford Berkshire and have 3 children, John b abt 1857, Mary abt 1859 and Jeremiah abt 1861.
In 1871 they are in Walthamstow Essex, John and Jeremiah jnr are gone and they have Katherine b abt 1864, Edward abt 1866, Robert abt 1869 and Margaret abt 1871.  They came to New Zealand abt 1873 and possibly had another son, and a daughter Annie abt 1876.  Neither of those births appear to be registered here and I cannot find the births of any of the children born in England either (Free BDM)

The death certificates give no place of birth for Mary or Jeremiah.  His parents are named as Timothy Corkery and no mother named and hers as Denis Herdley and Mary Dinnanan.(possibly Dinneen?)

I guess that unless I can find a marriage which will give me more information I cannot go any further back on this line.

My grandmother was adopted by the youngest daughter Annie and her husband.  She always said that her birth father was Dan Corkery but none of the sons I have found are called Dan and I can find no evidence of a Dan Corkery here in New Zealand although my uncle swears he met him on more than one occasion.

Any suggestions on what I can do next?

Thanks

« on: Sunday 18 December 05 17:38 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone find Henry Tatam born Stamford Lincs abt 1800 and his family?  His wife at the time may have been Frances born Sibson.  Children should include Emma Tatam born Stamford and Charles Tatam born Barrowden.  There may also be several of Frances's children including Frances and Elizabeth Briggs.
Many thanks

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Warwick 1851 lookup please
« on: Tuesday 30 November 04 04:58 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the Allen family.  In 1841 they were listed as St Mary's Chapel Court Friar Street Warwick.  At that time they were all born in Warwickshire and included
George Allen age 45
Caroline Allen age 40
Caroline Allen age 1

I suspect that Caroline snr may have died between 1841 and 1851
Thanks
