« on: Friday 20 June 14 10:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could give me the details of a marriage between John Fletcher and Sylvia Daykin in Radford 1845?
Many thanks

Derbyshire / Fletchers of Heanor and Smalley
« on: Sunday 27 November 11 12:47 GMT (UK)  »
After years of having a brick wall in the person of James Fletcher, born c1881 I think I have found his family from Workhouse records indicating that they came from Heanor in Derbyshire.

I have since been able to trace the family back through the censuses but have come to a halt with James' grandfather John Fletcher who appears to have been born in Heanor c1788. He marries (hopefully) a Eliza X sometime around 1838 (child Elizabeth seems to have been born in 1839).

However, they seem to have been specialists at not featuring in BDM records...

can anyone help? I think John and eliza's marriage may have been in smalley as she came from that parish...

Regards
Mike

Could anyone with access to Framlington PRs check to see of there are any Howards / Haywards births listed in the 1790s?

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Huddersfield Marriage request
« on: Wednesday 23 February 11 08:28 GMT (UK)  »
Could some kind person check a possible marriage for me please?

John Sykes married a Martha X c 1829 - both are on the censuses as born in Slaithwaite and living there in 1841 (Blakestones). I understand that marriages for this area had to be in Huddersfield Parish Church?

Many thanks
Mike

Lancashire / Oldham and Manchester
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 17:53 BST (UK)  »
My gggggreatgrandfather Jacob Kay married an Ann Schofield in St Mary's Oldham in 1832. I know from a later marriage his father's name was William Kay. Census details always record him having been born in Oldham, at varying years between 1793-1795.

I cannot find any likely baptisms for Jacob (father William) except a Baptism at Manchester 'Cathedral' on 30 Mar 1794.  I know the old Manchester Parish church covered a huge area and people got married there to avoid double fees, but did this apply to baptisms too? And would it have covered Oldham anyway?

The William mentioned and his wife Jennet / Jannet had at least 4 more kids baptised their between 1786 and 1794...

Am I chasing a red herring?

Technical Help / Ancestry issue with saving docs
« on: Tuesday 06 July 10 10:30 BST (UK)  »
Have Ancestry decided to stop users being able to save docs to their computers now? I have tried several times this morning and cannot save anything other than to my tree... this isn't much use if you want to build files of returns to browse through easily looking for trends or neighbours!

Essex / Photos of Fords workers, Dagenham c1935
« on: Monday 21 June 10 13:45 BST (UK)  »
I have 4 photos taken by my grandfather of Fords workers c1935. 3 are from a works outing. Two are large group shots and might be of interest to anyone who had ancestors working their at the time.

Any idea where it might be worth sending copies of them too?

Denbighshire / Williams and Princes in Denbighshire
« on: Thursday 04 February 10 16:06 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Jane Williams who married Daniel Prince in Llanfwrog Parish Chuch 1866. Her father is listed as Thomas and Jane is of a helpful 'full age'.

Post-marital census details suggest she was born c1843 though her death cert suggests 1841 - and she gave her birth area as Wrexham.

There are over a dozen possible Jane Williams born in Wrexham during that time and I'm guessing there will be several Thomases amongst the fathers...

Anyone got any ideas how I can pin down the right Jane? There seem to be too many vague possibilities in the 1851 and 1861 censuses with none totally fitting the bill, though I am tempted by one that offers a Hannah as the mother... this is a straw floating near me though - nothing more!

Kent Lookup Requests / Quee(a)ns in Wye
« on: Friday 20 November 09 13:16 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone with access to Wye PR check if there are any references to Quean or Queen in the Parish c1750- 1800? Especially an Elizabeth Quean being born in 1791!

Many thanks
Mike
