Hi,

I would appreciate some help with a block in my tree please.

In the 1841 Census I have a relative living at Neptune Court St Marys Rotherhythe Southwark, South London.

The group is

Peter Lunn Head 67 Labourer F
Lydia Lunn Wife  64     F
Maria daughter 32    Needlework   Y
James Son         28 Labourer  Y
Ellen Daughter 24 Needlework Y

The full family from all records found to date are

Peter Lunn b1869-1774 to 1844
Lydia  b1777

Peter Lun b1800-d1805
Marie Lun   b1802-
William James Lund b1806-
Maria Lunn 1809-
James Thomas Lunn b1810-d1888
Thomas George Lunn b1813-
Ellen Lunn b1817-

The 1841 census seems to indicate that Peter and Lydia are not born in the UK and I have not yet found a marriage record for them in the UK or Ireland.  There is a slight possibility
one of other of them might be Scandinavian, possibly Norwegian.  On 2 other records Peter's occupation is given as "Mariner". Peter is buried 6th October 1844 at St Mary's Rotherhithe. Lydia's death date is unknown.

If anyone has any suggestions about where I might look to find other information or can find them in additional records I would be very grateful.

Thanks you
Mark

Gloucestershire / Mary Ann Lewis - Stroud area 1851 ?
« on: Tuesday 28 October 14 00:35 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for my great great grandmother in the 1851 and 1861 census records. Mary A Lewis married in Stroud in 1870 and I can find her in the census from 1871 onwards but I am struggling in the 1861 and 1851. In her marriage certificate it says her father is William Lewis and that she is a "Spinster" of "Full Age". Her birth year is most likely late 1847 into 1848. There is some confusion about her place of birth and from 1871 onwards it is given as "Kidderminster" but a family tradition also states she came from Ireland. There might be a legitimate reason for some confusion over her origins as it is possible that her father was a Waterman or Canal Boat Skipper although his occupation is given as "Weaver" on her marriage certificate. It might be that there was some issue with respectability.
Any help with Mary would be greatly appreciated - Thank you - Mark

Hi everyone,
I have having another crack at finding out more about my 5 x Great Grandfather Thomas Warner.

The oldest information I have is his marriage in 1779 as follows:

St.Mary’s Parish Church.
Hinckley.
Parish Registers read thus :~

Anno Domini :~ 1779.

Entry No’. 196.

Thomas Warner of this Parish. .Bachelor.
Ann Ward of the Parish of Coleorton in the County of Leicestershire. Spinster.

Married in this Church by Licence
This Twenty eight Day of July.
One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy nine.
By Me :~ H Gutteridge. …Vicar..

Both signed by their own signatures.

In the Presence of :~
Edward Toon..
Samuel Mersey Church Clark ? signed several Registers . …

Extra Information via the Affidavit :~ .

Approved & Granted. ….26th. July 1779.

WARNER Thomas. Labourer Hinckley..
Bachelor. Aged. 21.

WARD Ann. Aged. 21. Spinster of Coleorton.
in the County of Leicestershire.

Securer of the £ 200. Bond
Edward Toon Brick maker of Hinckley...

I know they lived in Coleorton when their Daughter Jane was born in 1782
Three other children followed; John 1784 - 1858, Dorothy (died in Childhood), Isacc 1789 to 1856

I am unable to locate where Thomas was born circa 1758ish +/- and I also feel that they likely had other children somewhere, maybe Hinckley between 1779 and 1782 and possible after1789 somewhere else. There is a death in Swannington (Whitwick) of a Thomas Warner in 1838 aged 85 but as this gives a different birth year (1752) I am not at all sure this is the correct one or what happened to his wife Ann or if she died earlier etc and hi might have remarried (conjecture).

So really I am looking for suggestions as to where I might look to find any other possible references that might help me pin down their movements, other possible children and birth/baptism records.

Thanks for any help given - Mark

Hi,
Can some kind person help me with a clean-up/repair of this photo of my great grandmother and her sister. While I can process the image to make it clearer there is a nasty scratch through my great great Aunt Helen's face.
The photo is quite small so I have made it available via a link as it exceeds size limits to try to keep the quality as good as possible

World War One / John Joseph Moynihan - Royal Navy?
« on: Wednesday 05 September 12 10:40 BST (UK)  »
Is it possible to find out if someone was in the Royal Navy?

I have just received a copy of one of my great grandmothers marriage certificates where she gives her father, John Joseph Moynihan (deceased by 1959) as being a Leading Seaman (Royal Navy). This is the first and only reference I have seen to him being in the RN. He was born approx' Feb 1871 so my guess would most likely be WW1. None of the census records before 1911 make any reference to the RN although he appears to be missing from the 1891 census even though he marries in August 1891 in Newington near where is was born in Rotherhithe. However he gives his occupation as Labourer in August 1891 which is compatible with his usual description of Waterfront Labourer/Stevadore/Barge Builder.

I really am not sure if my great grandmother has just invented this Navy occupation or if it might be true.

Any help greatfully received - Mark

Surrey / John Joseph Moynihan of Rotherhithe
« on: Sunday 26 August 12 12:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am having trouble locating the birth record and 1891 census record for John Joseph Moyniham who was born in Rotherhithe in 1871. From the London Marriage birth and baptism records I know he married in August 1891 and he gives his second name on the baptism record of one of his first children born. The John Moynihan is not to be confused with John Francis Moynihan or John James Moynihan who are born 1872-1874. The spelling of the name Moynihan varies considerably and can be found as Minsen, Monahan, Minihane and similar.

The marriage record gives his father as Andrew Moynihan and he can be found in Wales in 1861 I think with his wife Bridget Sullivan. I woukld really like to trace his brith record to confirm his mother's detail.

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks - Mark

Additional - On 2nd August 1891 his address is given as (I think) 6 Tunnel Street but the marriage takes place at All Saint's Church Newington. I do not know south London that well so I am not sure if this address is in Rotherhithe or not. Andrew Moynihan is also recorded as deceased on this date. I do not know when he died.
