Dorset / Isaac family, Dorset - probably Pimperne
« on: Monday 24 February 14 15:20 GMT (UK)  »
My 3x-great-grandparents were Joseph Purkis and Ann Isaac(s).

Ann's baptismal details:
14th October 1787
St Thomas, Portsmouth
Father: Joseph Isaacs
Mother: Frances

I believe this was the marriage of Joseph and Frances Isaac:

Joseph ISAACK & Frances CHARLES 2 November 1778
Affpuddle, Dorset

One of the witnesses was Thomas Isaac.

I found these baptisms at Pimperne:

Samuel Isaac 25 April 1737
Thomas 10 September 1739
Joseph 28 December 1741

Parents for the three boys : William and Martha Isaac

Thomas Isaac married Mary Fudge on 5th November 1767, also at Affpuddle.

It looks as though William was married before:

Name:    William Isaac
Event Type:    Marriage
Event Date:    30 Dec 1728
Parish:    Pimperne
Spouse's Name:    Ann Selby

These sons:
William 5 April 1730
Abraham 4 February 1733

Ann Isaac was buried 3 Mar 1733, so she died just after Abraham's birth.

Any further details on the Isaacs would be welcome.

I also found this on the TNA site:

William Isaac, labourer, Martha his wife and Ann, Samuel, Thomas and Joseph their children. Place of settlement Pimperne  PE/PIM/OV 2/1/1  8 Oct 1742
These documents are held at Dorset History Centre

Kent / Mary Ford born c. 1778 at Appledore, Kent or Rye, Sussex
« on: Friday 07 February 14 10:28 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the baptism for and family of my 3x-great-grandmother, MARY FORD.

She married AARON HATCH on 14th August 1798 at Alverstoke, Hampshire.

I have her on three censuses:

1841 Census
NEW FOREST, Wiltshire
HO107 piece 1169 folio 4/10 page 13
Row Hill, Parish of Bramshaw, Wilts
Aaron Hatch      65 Ind Y
Mary Hatch         60 N

1851 Census
PORTSEA ISLAND, Hampshire
HO107 piece 1657 folio 484 page 5
Buckland Portsea
Aaron Hatch      Head Mar 78 Grocer Wilts Bramshaw
Mary Hatch         Wife Mar 72 Kent Appledore

1861 Census
Hatch, Mary Ann
PORTSEA ISLAND, Hampshire
RG09 piece 634 folio 86 page 27
38 Hertford Street Portsea
John Bramsdon      Head Mar 53 Retail Brewer Portsea Southampton
Emma         Wife Mar 46 Portsea Southampton
Mary Ruth         Daugh Unmar 20 Portsea Southampton
Annie Kate      Daugh Unmar 11 Scholar Portsea
William Henry      Son unmar 9 Scholar Portsea
Fanny Maria      Daugh unmar 7 Scholar Portsea
Thomas Arthur      son unmar 4 Scholar Portsea
Mary Ann Hatch      mother in law Widow 84 Income derived from properties Rye Sussex

So her approximate place of birth would be Appledore, Kent or Rye, Sussex, which I believe are close together.

She is twice referred to as "Mary Ann" - once on the 1861 Census and once on the baptism of one of her children.

Any help in finding her baptism or family would be greatly appreciated.

Surrey / Baptist burials in and around Guildford?
« on: Monday 22 July 13 08:54 BST (UK)  »
My 4x-great-grandmother Elizabeth White died in January 1847 and is not buried in any of the CofE graveyards.

Her last child was born in 1801 and was recorded as a non-conformist birth.  Her son, my 3x-great-grandfather, brought up his children as Baptists.

If Elizabeth were a Baptist, where would she be buried in Guildford or nearby?

Quaker Family History / Edward Adkins Quaker Banbury
« on: Saturday 15 June 13 08:01 BST (UK)  »
My 5x-great-grandmother was Rachel Adkins who married John Jeffcotte (Jeffcoat) at Warwick in 1735.
Rachel was the daughter of Edward and Rachel Adkins and was born on 1st October 1710 in the Banbury district (this would be the Quaker meeting).

I don't have details of Edward and Rachel Adkin's marriage, but it he could be the child of Edward and Mary Adkins and have been born 10 November 1688, Banbury district.

I don't know exactly where the Adkins family lived.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This is a long-standing brickwall about my 3x great-grandmother Martha Franklin.

She married Charles Alexander at Lambourn(e) in 1818 and they lived at Lambourn until the early 1830s, when they moved to Lancashire.  On the 1851 census Martha is given as have being born in Newbury, but that could have been the general area or nearest town.

Her age on the censuses is inconsistent, but she is likely to have been born between 1792 and 1799.  I know nothing about her family - no details on her parents, possible siblings etc.

She could write, as she signed the marriage register.

Any help in finding her baptism would be most appreciated.

In the will of Prudence Parratt of Bletchingdon, 1704, are mentioned Prudence and Elizabeth Golder, grandchildren.  In the will, the mother of the children is obviously dead.

There is a marriage between Prudence Parrett and John Golder on 2 January 1695 at Oddington.

I can't find a baptism for Prudence, who should be the daughter of Richard and Prudence Parratt of Bletchingdon.  All the other baptisms of the children mentioned in the will are accounted for.

Was she baptised in another parish? The baptism should be between 1650 and about 1675.

Please ignore - I posted this on the wrong board.  I didn't realise this was the completed board. :-[
