« on: Thursday 02 January 20 13:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for baptism records for pre-1859 for Ballinagh/Bellananagh, Kilmore parish.

On https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0843 it only shows 1859-1880.

Does anybody know where I can find these if they still exist?

Thanks
James

Cavan / Cavan - Parish Registers - CROTTY
« on: Monday 30 December 19 09:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I am researching a Crotty family who lived around Killashandra, Cavan.

I have information on the marriage of Thomas Crotty and Rose Ann Duignan, 24 Feb 1870, Killeshandra.

And their children: William 1871, Kate/Catharine 1873, John 1875, Thomas 1877 and James 1881.

But am looking for birth/baptism and burial/death for Thomas Crotty, their father and his father William Crotty.

I am also hoping to find who Thomas Crotty's mother was and names of any of his siblings.

I hope someone can help. Thank you.

Hi,

I am looking for the will of Preston Cooper, Great Clacton, 1782. Its reference is D/ABW 108/2/3 on SEAX.

I am not looking for anymore records in Essex right now and am shocked by ERO's prices for SEAX access.
If somebody who has a SEAX membership could be so kind as to save a copy of this file and send it to me, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / John William Young - one of my brickwalls
« on: Wednesday 30 November 16 17:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

My great grandfather has been one of my two brickwalls for the past 5 years.
I hate to think how many hours I've spent trying to find something useful on this man.

Can somebody please help me? Possibly a lookup for Whitechapel baptisms might help.

I have a few records for him:
1911 census
John William Young
Born abt. 1880, Whitechapel
Occupation: Asylum attendant
Family: Wife and two children.

Marriage certificate
6 Apr 1907, Kensington.
Male nurse
Born abt. 1880
Father: John William Young, Wood Turner
One of the witnesses is a Florence Young

Second marriage
To Louisa Mary Kyte on 14 Oct 1939, Minehead, Somerset.
Male Nurse.
Father: John William Young, Carpenter, Deceased.

Death
07 Jan 1967, Deermoss Hospital, Whitchurch, Shropshire

Can somebody lookup Whitechapel baptisms for 1880 to find him, and perhaps verify with Florence Young, maybe she is his sister/mother?

I have been unable to find him on 1891 census, 1901 census and the 1939 register.
I have been told that he may have been a nurse abroad for the Bulgarian Royal Family after his wife Emily Mabel Hills died in 1933 but I am most interested in who his parents and siblings were. If anyone can help, I'll be very grateful. Even if somebody could suggest another place to look. I might try Claybury Asylum records as they lived in Woodford Bridge when he was an asylum attendant.

Cork / *COMPLETED* Civil Registration Births/Parish Registers - BURNS/BYRNES
« on: Sunday 19 December 10 16:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

My great-grandfather, James Burns, was supposedly from Cork and born abt. 1866. I have been told by a cousin that he changed the spelling from Byrnes to Burns when he joined the Queens Own Cameron Highlander Regiment - maybe to sound more Scottish! His father was Thomas Burns/Byrnes.

Could somebody please do a look-up for me on the Civil Registration Index for Cork for James Byrnes born 1864 - 1867? If anyone has a resource for looking at Cork parish registers and finds a James Byrnes/Burns born to Thomas Byrnes/Burns, that would be even more amazing!

Thank you very much,

James

Armed Forces / Boer War medal roll abbreviation
« on: Wednesday 10 November 10 19:14 GMT (UK)  »
As many of you might know, many medal rolls have been published on A**** recently.

Many of the Boer War rolls have a remark that seems to be 'To a Res in S.A'.
Please could somebody tell me what this means.

Occupation Interests / Collar number from Old Bailey record
« on: Monday 30 August 10 14:16 BST (UK)  »
http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?id=t18511027-name-89&div=t18511027-1853#highlight

The above link contains an Old Bailey report. I want to check if the 'Thomas Marston C 87' mentioned is my relative.

On the MEPO records my Thomas Marston is shown as having the warrant number '27598' and he was in the Met from 6 May 1850 to 16 May 1853.

I would really like to know if the 'C87' in the article is a collar number and if there is a way of confirming that these are the same police officers? Is this possible?

Armed Forces / No service record?
« on: Thursday 29 July 10 12:43 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I visited the NA at Kew recently to find my g-grandfather's service record. He (James Burns/Byrnes) was born in Cork, Ireland or Pembrokeshire, Wales abt. 1864-7.
I believe that he was in the Cameron Highlanders sometime before 1899; I know he was awarded medals.

I spent much time searching but was then told by a member of staff that not all service records survived. Does anyone know what percentage are estimated to have survived?

How likely is it that I could find him on a medal roll?
Are there any other ways of finding him on army records?

I really hope someone can help. I am desperate to learn more about his military history.

James
