Donegal / Browne
« on: Tuesday 09 April 24 19:10 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I need some help with tracing Richard Browne. He was born about 1788 maybe in Drumgowan, Donegal, Ireland. His came from a respected, wealthy mercantile family. They were very upset when he decided to serve in the British Army and several times tried to buy him out. The army took him to Canada where he married Emily Wooley and had a family. That is all I know about his life before he came to Canada. Can anyone help?

Ireland / McKenney Clisdell
« on: Tuesday 09 April 24 18:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I haven't been on this site for years so I am hoping I am doing this right. I have extensive information on my McKenney line except for before they arrived in Canada. I know they are from Ireland but am not sure where in Ireland. John McKenney was born in Ireland in 1791. He married Mary Clisdell born 1793 in Ireland. They had six children that I am aware of. I think only the two eldest were born in Ireland. William in 1819 and Mary Ann in 1820. Their third was born in Canada around 1825 so sometime between 1820 and 1825 they left Ireland. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

Devon / William PERRYMAN, Mary PERRY (KNOWLES)
« on: Tuesday 06 March 12 22:38 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for info on William Perryman.  He married Mary Knowles (nee Perry) on May 2 1807 in Aylesbeare, Devon.  Mary was previously married to John Knowles.  Her children with Knowles resepected William Perryman so much that they often used his surname instead of Knowles.  I know absolutely nothing about him.  I expect he was born about 1770 since Mary was born in 1774.  Mary died in 1867 in Richmond, Yorkshire,  I know its not alot to go on, but I am hoping to find out something about William.  Maybe he was married before and had children or maybe he and Mary had children together.  Thanks for the help

Ireland / Richard Browne 1788 Ireland
« on: Sunday 02 October 11 23:52 BST (UK)  »
I have Richard Browne in my tree and he is proving to be very difficult to find any further information on.  I know that he was born in 1788 in Ireland.

In December 1810 he was in Tullemore, Ireland where he enlisted in the British Army. His regiment sailed from Cork on May 17, 1813.  He apparently came from a resepectable mercantile family and they tried several times to buy him out of the army since he enlisted against their wishes.

I know nothing else of his Irish life.  He settled in Canada.  Married Emily Wooley and had several children.  I am trying to find more about his family in Ireland.  Can anyone steer me in the right direction? THanks

Canada / Wooley/Woolley and Browne
« on: Saturday 26 March 11 18:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have a family that has been very difficult to trace.  Emily Wooley married Richard Browne in 1814, Niagara, Canada.  They had several children.

Richard Browne was born about 1788 in Ireland and was supposedly from a respectable Mercantile family.  When Richard joined the British Army, they repeatedly tried to buy his release against his wishes.  That is pretty much all I know about the man before his arrival in Canada.

Emily Wooley/Woolley was born Oct 24 1796 in either New York or New Jersey.  Her father was Issac Wooley and her mother was Elizabeth.  Isaac was born in Ireland and his wife in the USA.  I have never been able to find a single thing on Isaac or his wife.

I hope someone can help.  Thanks.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Thomas Cook - 1844
« on: Saturday 26 March 11 01:07 GMT (UK)  »
I have a man with a very common name and have had trouble finding him anywhere.  I don't know alot about him.  His name was Thomas I Cook.  He was born (or christened) on Nov 15 1844 somewhere in England.  On Sept 10 1867 he married Mary Ann Lapthorn in Islington, London.  They had four children (that I know of):

Alice 1865
Frances 1868
Charlotte Selina 1870
William John 1871 - Plymouth, Cornwall

The girls were all born in Devonshire.

William married Lucy Brooks in Ontario, Canada in 1897.

Thomas died in 1878 London
Mary died 1878 Plyymouth

The kids would have still been very young so I wonder where they would have gone after their parent's deaths.

I'm hoping someone out there can help.  thanks

« on: Wednesday 01 September 10 19:40 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the parents of Mary Brown born about 1799 in Shoreditch.  I believe that her father was named John Brown.  I know that she also had a sister, Matilda, born 1816.  Mary married John Leaper and then Charles Timms.  Would appreciate any help.  Thanks
