Northumberland / Fredricina Crowley
« on: Saturday 28 December 19 20:50 GMT (UK)  »
Fredricina Crowley (married name) was born 14 Dec 1910 according to her death record from 2000 which was in Newcastle England.

I have found a number of electoral registers for her and believe that she was Married to Joseph Crowley and had 2 sons. These are all in Newcastle England, however I cannot find and births or marriages, therefore believe that they may have come from Ireland circa 1937/38.

I am trying to find something more on Fredricina to establish her maiden name and more on Joseph as he disappears from the electoral rolls in 1939, possibly died in the war (clutching at straws)

Any thoughts?

Elizabeth Thompson 1904–1998
Rosetta Florence Thompson 1910–1994

I am trying to find details of Charles Thompson before the marriage to Harriet.   On the Marriage Cert his father is listed as William Thompson (Deceased) Shoemaker.

I have a potential in 1881 Charles Thompson aged 17 living in Hackney Occupation: Brush Maker, Living with Mother Susanah aged 50
Class: RG11; Piece: 309; Folio: 48; Page: 73

1871 Living in Hackney as a child aged 10 with Mother Susan aged 50 and siblings Thomas Thompson aged 14 & Mary Ann Thompson aged 13

1861 census before Charles was born there is
William Thompson Shoemaker aged 43,  Wife Susannah Thompson aged 36, children Alfred Thompson aged 11 & Mary Ann Thompson aged 6.  Not Sure where Thomas is.
Class: RG 9; Piece: 159; Folio: 61; Page: 28

I have found a William Thompson in 1851 in Hackney, Occupation Shoemaker. Married (no Family with him)

I have founs a Sarah Thompson aged 30 at the home of Henry & Mary Ann Hann/Mann with her son Alfred Thompson aged 4 Mo
Class: HO107; Piece: 1550; Folio: 178; Page: 9;

I've not found a marriage between William & Sarah or William & Susan/Susanah.
The 3 children before charles all appear to have the mother's maiden name of Mann.  Nothing that I can find for Charles, so guessing William go together with Susan/Susanah after Sarah passed away. There is a potential death in 1857 in Bethnal Green

If anyone can help me to work out who the mother was of Charles and the birth entry for him I will be most grateful.

Thanks in advance

Durham / Grandmother & Granddaughter Baptism help
« on: Friday 10 August 18 21:22 BST (UK)  »
A bit of a long post but thought I'd give some background

Gt Grandmother Mary Letitia Sanderson b Nov 1898 Ferryhill, Durham, England. Parents on birth cert John Sanderson & Caroline (Collingwood) they married in June 1898.  At some point in 1899 John Sanderson learned that he wasn't born John Sanderson (only raised as that name) and was in fact called Albert Henry Mordecai.  He and Caroline had to remarry under the correct name, not knowing the correct spelling they went with Mordica which the rest of their children were registered.

Albert Henry Mordecai was born in 1876 Cassop, Durham, England to Letitia Mordecai raised by her and her husband (from 1877) John Sanderson.  He is with grandparents in 1881.

Letitia Mordecai was born 1857 Shotton Colliery to John Mordecai & Elizabeth (Haswell)

John Mordecai was born 1818 Butterwick, Durham, England to Letitia/Letisher/Lettice Mordecai , listed on baptism is his father John Thompson, however he was raised by his mother and her husband (from 1921) Francis Carter.

Letitia/Letisher/Lettice Mordecai  was born abt 1788 in Stranton, Durham, England (according to census).  I've never been able to find a baptism record for her.  I do believe that she is descended from one of the children of  Alexander Mordecai 1710–1753 & Lettice Best 1721–1798 from Stranton, Durham, England.  They are the only Mordecai family I have been able to find in Durham and I've tracked all Mordecai's in NE England I've found so far back to them.

Children

John Mordecai 1743–

Cuthbert Mordecai 1745–1799

William Mordecai 1748–

Ann Mordecai 1750–

Letitia Mordecai 1752–1755

If anyone can find anything on Letitia/Letisher/Lettice Mordecai  (1788 in Stranton, Durham, England) who her parent/s were I'd be eternally grateful.

Next is The lady above's Granddaughter.

Letitia/Letisher/Lettice Mordecai  (1788 in Stranton, Durham, England) had another illegitimate child, Jane Mordecai born 1814.  Jane appears to have had an illegitimate daughter in around 1835 in 1841 & 1851 she is with her Grandparents Francis & Latitia Carter (1941  census), Francis & Letisher Carter (1851).  Her mother Jane had in 1839 married a man called William Hutchinson.

The name of this child is a bit confusing and as such I have been unable to find a baptism for her.  Born approx 1834/35. On the Census (1841 & 1851 Dalton le Dale, Durham, England) she is Lettis Carter, I have found a marriage in 1959 where she is called Viletta Mordecai.  She marries Stephen Cuthbert and her father is listed as William Hutchinson (same name as mothers husband), on the remaining census entries she is Violetta.   If anyone can help find a baptism, that would be great.

Thanks in advance

« on: Saturday 07 July 18 11:46 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the parents of Jamesina Sutherland 1920–2003 Wick, Caithness, Scotland and also those of Alexander Stewart 1919–1982 Wick, Caithness, Scotland.

Is there any way to find this other than ordering the Birth Certificates?

Midlothian / Am I confusing 2 families as one?
« on: Sunday 18 March 18 13:33 GMT (UK)  »
I've managed to get myself all confused.

2x Gt Grandfather William Henderson Allison BIRTH 06 DEC 1863 Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom
Parents
William Henderson Allison
Eliza Allison Nee Peacock

I have found a Marriage for William Allison & Eliza Peacock 21 Aug 1853 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.  Bride's father listed as Walter Peacock Occupation Groom.

Eliza's Death 1899 has her father listed as John Peacock Coachman, no mother listed.

I have found a possible birth record for her in 1836 Elizabeth Peacock - Parents John Peacock Occupation Groom and Ann Robb.

Other than the fathers name on the marriage being different, everything else looks as though they fit.

Then we come to the Census, everything looks great until I work back to 1841  I have 2 households that could be Eliza.

Eliza Peacock Aged 6, Estimated Birth Year 1835 Midlothian, Scotland.  Address is High Street, Parish Dalkeith
Other names in the Household:-
Walter Peacock   aged 35 Occupation Groom
John Peacock aged 15
Robert Peacock aged 11
Mary Peacock aged 3
Agnes Peacock aged 2

The next one

Elizabeth Peacock aged 4  Estimated Birth Year 1837 Midlothian, Scotland, Address 5 Danbar Street, parish Edinburgh St Cuthberts
Other names in the Household:-
Ann Peacock aged 25
William Peacock aged 2

I almost ruled this out until I found John
John Peacock aged 30 Estimated birth year 1811 Midlothian, Scotland.  Address Gilmerton House.  Occupation Coachman.

Am I therefore confusing 2 Eliza/Elizabeth Peacocks who both married a William Allison whose parents had same/similar jobs?

Caithness / William Henderson when did he die?
« on: Saturday 23 September 17 16:02 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the death of William Henderson born approx 1770
He was married to Christian Tulloch and he is showing on her death cert in 1855 as deceased occupation was Farm Servant.
William & Christian had the following children

David Henderson 1797
John Henderson 1798
Christian Henderson 1803
Ann Henderson 1807
Benjamin Henderson 1809

The family were born and remained in Caithness as far as I can see, I have looked for a death for William on Scotlands People to no avail.

I appreciate that there is no guarantee that William died in Caithness.  Any suggestions on where to look next.

Occupation Interests / 1960s Apprentice Hairdresser
« on: Tuesday 27 June 17 22:50 BST (UK)  »
Would there be a typical age range for an apprentice hairdresser in the 1960's? i.e. 15/16-18 as we would expect today or would it span longer with the qualified titles not be as vast as today's job titles?

The Common Room / Adoption Etiquette/Protocol
« on: Thursday 22 June 17 00:17 BST (UK)  »
I have been asked to help a friend find their birth parent(s) which I have done on paper. I have their current address etc but haven't passed this on.  I know they want to contact their birth mother but I do not know the Etiquette/Protocol that should be followed when an adoptive child wants to contact their biological parent(s)

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Many Thanks
