Worcestershire / Harry Tate's Butchers Shop
« on: Saturday 25 February 12 11:00 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone knows where (or if) I could find any records of employees/apprentices of Harry Tate. He had a  butchers shop in Cradley from the 1920's it was later taken over by Harry Mapp.

Worcestershire / Who is the first wife Ann or Mary
« on: Wednesday 28 December 11 15:15 GMT (UK)  »
My 3times Great Grandfather John Attwood married Priscilla c1816 they had 5 children.
I have a copy of John's will, it includes Priscilla and her 5 offspring and also a son Thomas and the executor is a son Joseph.

I have found baptisms for two Thomas's - 1795 with parents John and Mary and 1804 with parents John and Ann. Both at Old Swinford - which would make sense as they were in the Lye area.
There is a Joseph baptised 1793 also at Old Swinford, with parents John and Mary.
There is a marriage for A John Attwood to Mary Round in 1793 but I cant find anything for an Ann.

I have been looking at Old Swinford Monumental Inscriptions and have found one which I believe to be Johns - it includes a wife Mary but neither Ann or Priscilla get a mention!

I know in the scheme of things it doesn't matter as I am descended from Priscilla but it is nice to tie up the loose ends, so if anyone has any suggestions as to who came first  Mary or Ann. Maybe he didn't marry Ann because if the gravestone is the right one Mary didn't die until 1812!!!!

Armed Forces / George Worton
« on: Tuesday 27 April 10 10:04 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on George Worton
Family stories say that he served in the Boer war but so far I have been unable to confirm it.
I have been unable to find him on the 1891 or 1901 census, but he had obviously been home because he had aquired a  wife and two children. He is with his family in 1911.
I do have his service record for WW1 and a photograph of him taken c1915 in uniform. He has 4 white chevrons on the lower left arm which I believe indicate length of service.
All suggestions gratefully received.

Worcestershire / John Attwood
« on: Saturday 20 March 10 12:20 GMT (UK)  »
I have John Attwood on the 1841 census with wife Priscilla and 6 children living in Lye.
John was i think baptised at Old Swinford in October 1777.
I think he possibly married twice, first to an Ann and then Priscilla. I have been unable to find dates for either of the marriages.
Any help finding dates and maiden names of the two brides (if there were two) would be greatly appreciated
cheers
Sue
