« on: Thursday 08 March 12 15:35 GMT (UK)  »
 Greetings from Canada.
Looking for information on James McDonald  b.  Aug. 1,, 1793 Kilmartin Parish
                                                                    d. 1874
                                                                    married to Christina Shaw

His parents:  Donald McDonald and Mary Black of Duntrune

Wondering if he could be a sibling of Donald McDonald b. 1795/96 Kilmartin Parish or Archibald, John, Margaret or Mary McDonald. Records seem very scarce in this area. In Canadian Census they listed themselves as Free Church if that helps.

Thanks for any help or leads.    Jan

Essex / MORRELLS from Chipping Onger
« on: Thursday 23 February 12 20:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi from Canada,   I am descended from a Samuel Morrell  b. 1664 in Chipping Onger. Older brother Thomas b. 1662 in Great Dunmow. Parents Thomas & Hannah.
The family emigrated to Newtown, Long Island, New York, USA. And then some, my branch, stayed Loyal to England during the the American Revolution so ended up in Canada in 1783/84.
I would like to know more about their circumstances in England.  Was this a common name in the area?Occupation?  What would have compelled them to leave for North America? Social and religious upheaval at the time?
Any internet sources of information?   I appreciate any help.  Thanks in advance.
