Armagh / Kentleton ancestors in Ireland/Armagh
« on: Wednesday 18 March 09 00:39 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for my Kentleton ancestors in Ireland. According to the 1841 Census of England, my 4 x Great Grandfather, Thomas Kentleton, was born in Ireland c1787. In the 1851 Census, a Daniel Kentleton, possibly Thomas' brother, was shown as born in Armagh in 1791. In my searches, I've never found the name Kentleton in Ireland. I'd be very grateful for any help or suggestions.

Norfolk / William Cobb(e), Steward of Felbrigg Hall
« on: Monday 18 September 06 09:58 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor, William Cobb(e), was the Steward of Felbrigg Hall, near Cromer,  from 1777 to 1792.  William had children born during his time at Felbrigg but I was surprised to find there are no records of their baptisms at St. Margarets (on the Felbrigg estate). I would be grateful for any suggestions as to where else to look  (I guess he may have been non-conformist).

Thanks, Reg Mayhew.

Lancashire / KENTLETON surname quest
« on: Friday 05 November 04 22:45 GMT (UK)  »
My was 4 x Great Grandfather was Thomas KENTLETON, born in Ireland c1787,
but this  surname seems to be very uncommon in both Ireland and England. There are only 15 individuals with the surname in the 1881 census of England and Wales, all of  whom I believe are my family. In all the various lists of Irish surnames I’ve come across on the Internet, the name “Kentleton” does not appear.

There is a family story that the KENTLETON name came from a ship from Ireland that sank off Liverpool. Apparently a baby boy survived and was found and given the ship's name as his surname.

Could anyone suggest how I might pursue this further ?
