Kent / Edward WALTER of Eynsford, Kent
« on: Friday 01 August 14 10:34 BST (UK)  »
I have taken my research on my direct family line back to:

(a) my 4 x great grandfather John WALTER, who died in 1841 (registered q/e Mar 1841 in Dartford as WALTERS!) aged 65 at Stone next Dartford - that places his birth year as 1775/6. I believe he was the Constable for Axtane Hundred from 1797-9 and he was a malster in Farningham.

(b) His wife, my 4 x great grandmother was Mary ALLCHIN, born 1753 Meopham, died 1853 Stone next Dartford.

(c) I believe that John's father was probably Edward WALTER, who married Elizabeth BRASIER (widow of Pettet BRASIER, nee ROBINS) at Eynsford in 1774. I have Edward's will, dated 1774, proved in 1779, and Elizabeth's after she married for the third time to John HILLIAM. In the will she makes provision for her son John WALTER (above) by appointing Sir John Dixon DYKE and Thomas DYKE of Lullingstone as executors and guardians to young John.

Despite extensive research, I have not been able to establish Edward's origins. There was one by his name who was baptised at Otford in 1716 and the name does appear a few times in the baptism registers of Marden.

Any information, no matter how trivial, would be very welcome!!

Kent / Walter family in Swanscombe Kent
« on: Thursday 08 January 09 19:41 GMT (UK)  »
There are two entries in the Swanscombe parish registers that are from my line:
1. John Walter, born 9/12/1800, baptism 31/12/1800, son of John and Mary
2. Baldwin John Duppa Walter, son of John above and Martha Duppa Walter (nee Howe), baptism 30/4/1825
The two Johns above were gentlemen farmers and owned Bean Farm in the parish of Stone near Dartford.
Mary, mother of John senior, is recorded in the 1841 and 1851 census returns. From these I deduced that she was born in Meopham and lived to the grand old age of 101. She was buried at Farningham on 25/11/1853. I do not know her birth family name and have not traced her marriage to John senior.
I have a will for John Walter of Swanscombe dated 1686, resident of Greenhithe, in which he mentions his late wife Elizabeth, daughter Elizabeth and son John. Both children were baptized at Swanscombe. I have not been able to link this group to my own line.
Any information to help my research would be greatly appreciated!
Ken Walter
