Armed Forces / WWI or WWII
« on: Wednesday 05 March 08 04:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have this picture of my Grandad (Restored by the other Board - Thanks again) but I am unsure as to which war it is from.  I was told he was in both lied to get into WWI and was 40 years old in WWII (born 1900)

As far as I am aware he was in the Prince of Wales Own Yorkshire Regiment.

Hope someone can help

Julie

Hi,

I have been sent this picture which is possibly my Grandad but its difficult as it is very dark and I'm not 100% if it is WWI or WWII,  I am led to believe that he was in both wars - I'd really appreciate any help on this.

Many thanks

South Africa / SA Help needed
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 13:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have "acquired" a Brooch and with it is the following Note:-

This brooch belonged to Maria Midgley (Ardee) who had it made and the locks of her dear husband put inside.   Thomas Midgley died after being thrown from his Horse in East London Sth Africa.   He was the first Chief Waterworks Inspector there.   He left four daughters and a Son.  Died March 1888.

The Brooch was made in Dublin at McDowell Bros and it is still in the original box - looking a bit worse for wear.  If you look at it - it is three flowers and some leaves - remember the flowers you used to draw as a kid - a round bit for the middle and then put the petals around - but look closer and it is made of hair - pretty freaky - well I think so.

So how can I find out just how true the info I have is - I've googled him but not really got anything concrete.

This afternoon I spoke with my new found rellies in Queensland and it seems there are a few of them too :D :D

All this stems from one census look up for 1861 - thats what started it all so thanks again.

I know what happened to the Yeadon lot and now I can find out what happened with the Aussie lot - so busy swapping info at the moment - its great.

G'night

Hi,

This afternoon I spoke with Relatives that I have in Queensland - only found out they were there this week  :D :D

Turns out they had done the Family Tree and he had been trying to find me for the past few years as he had seen posts I had done on various sites over the last four years.

So it does happen - my first big break for a long time on my names.

Many thanks to people on this site who have helped with info

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Chuffed - over the moon - love this site
« on: Saturday 13 November 04 12:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am so chuffed with the help that I have had from this site in the few days I have been a member.  The first major look up was the 1861 - found 3 kids and a wife that I didn;t know about and with that info I have managed to find two of the Sons fighting for Australia in the Boer War and I now know for certain that they didn't return to England - so somewhere in Queensland I have more rellies - thought I was the only one here - I am also being sent some Queensland BMDs from another Rootschatter - Fantastic site!!!

A very happy Marsden
