Glamorganshire / Is it worth visiting

Hi,

My wife and I are visiting the UK on a driving holiday in a couple of weeks and although I haven't done much on my wife's family history I do know that her father was born in wales and the address on his birth certificate is 14 Clifton terrace Mumbles.  I have checked out this address with google maps and it still exists but I'm wondering how old the building is because it won't mean much to us if it is not the same house.  Would anyone have information on how old the buildings in this area would be?

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1851 census

My ancestors lived in Crawshaw Fold Crumpsall in 1851.

Richard Scholes married Mary Goodier in 1840 and their son Oswald was born in 1846.  They emigrated to Oz some time after 1851.

I am trying to find other siblings that were born in the UK before departure.

Also One of the witnesses on the  marriage cert is Edmund Scholes (Richard's brother??)

Richard and Mary's Fathers are both recorded as John.  I would like to find the names of their respective Mothers. 

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Australia / How do I find ships

Hi,

This is something I have been trying to unravel off & on for some time.

I would like to find which ship my forebears came out to Australia on.

I know Richard & Mary Scholes (nee Goodier) were in Crumpsall for the 1851 census and believe they arrived in Sydney around about 1854, but I haven't been able to connect them with the ship they came out on.  I'm wondering if I may have better luck trying to find it from the departure end, but where do I start?

Sorry about posting this here but I don't know where else to go.

When I registered, I made a mistake when typing in my user name.  I typed azzieostrige instead of ozzieostrige.  I went to my profile and changed my name to ozzieostrige and this is what appears on my posts, however when I tried to sign in today I have had to type azzieostrige and this caused me some confusion.  Is it possible to change my username?

I have just joined rootschat.  I have been dabbling in my family histroy for about 10 years now, and have been able to trace my roots back to Cheetham Hill Manchester.

Richard Scholes married Mary Goodier in St Marys church Manchester in 1840 and in 1846 they had a son Oswald.  At this time they lived in what appears on Oswald's birth certificate to be Crawshaw or corowshaw Fold Crumpsall.

I also remember tracking them down in a census which led me to believe they lived at Cheetham Hill but I seem to have lost the exact details.

I am currently planning a trip to the UK and was thinking it would be fun to try and find the ancestral home of my forebears and the church they were married in (if they still exist).

I tried Google maps but this only confused me, so if anyone could assist me in locating these places I would appreciate it very much.
