Antrim / Townland in Ahoghill
« on: Thursday 16 November 23 00:47 GMT (UK)  »
Can someone decipher the name of the townland in Ahoghill for the birth of Rosetta Moore? See attached or at:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1878/02980/2091672.pdf

Also, what is written in the margin to the left of the birth entry for Rosetta Moore?

I am interested in finding the names of the landlords for several townlands in the parish of Inver. Any ideas on where to look? Thanks in advance.

Photo most likely of a Coulter family. Could someone help to determine if it originated in the USA or Co. Donegal, Ireland and an approximate date? Thanks.

« on: Sunday 25 December 22 21:20 GMT (UK)  »
I'm having trouble deciphering the townland in the attached death certificate from the registrar's district of Letterkenny. Is it Ballybe-Glenser and where would that be? Thanks.

Donegal / Landlord William Sinclair
« on: Friday 11 November 22 18:08 GMT (UK)  »
I have attached an obituary for William Sinclair [1810-1896] who was a landlord with properties in Holyhill, Co. Tyrone & Inver, Co. Donegal. Is it possible to determine what townlands in Inver that Sinclair owned? Also, at what point did the tenants in Ireland become property owners? Thanks.

Canada / Ontario Death Records?
« on: Friday 19 August 22 20:43 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the death & burial information of Fanny Anne [nee McKinley] Robinson but I am a novice at Canadian genealogy & need some help. Fanny Anne [nee McKinley] Robinson was born ca. 1850 in Dunfanaghy, Co. Donegal, Ireland & came to Ontario with her husband John Robinson [1852-1909], children, & extended family in 1883. However, she died a few years after arriving but I do not know the exact date of death or where she was buried. Through the help of a Rootschatter, a possible death record of 25 March 1885 was located. On Ancestry, several people have her death info as: SEP 1889 • Chatham, Kent County. I messaged these people but have not gotten a reply. How could I look into a death record from Chatham, Kent County in SEP 1889?

Donegal / Freeholders' Records at PRONI
« on: Thursday 09 June 22 15:17 BST (UK)  »
The PRONI website states that: freeholders were men who either owned their land outright or who held it in a lease for the duration of their life, or the lives of other people named in the lease.
1. What would be some reasons why men were given lifetime leases?
2. What was the length of the standard lease?

Donegal / Verschoyle Papers: Royal Irish Academy
« on: Monday 21 March 22 14:36 GMT (UK)  »
Many years ago, Denis Verschoyle served as the President of the Co. Donegal Historical Society. I understand that all of his research about the genealogy & history of Donegal are held by the Royal Institute of Ireland [RIA] in Dublin. I plan on contacting the RIA but wanted to see if other Roots Chatters know anything about these documents or if they have ever consulted them.
