Fife / Looking for Margaret Muckersie
« on: Tuesday 04 January 11 02:32 GMT (UK)  »
Margaret Muckarsie/Muckersie and several other variants was born on 5th March 1836 in Collessie, Fife. She was the daughter of Richard Muckarsie (b abt 1809) and Mary Douglas (b 17 Dec 1805). Margaret had an illegitimate son James born 1 Aug 1859 in Edinburgh. The father was John Mowat a gamekeeper (b abt 1835) from Wick, Caithness.

After the birth of James, mother and son seem to disappear. John Mowat marries Elizabeth Watson on the 3rd Mar 1865 in Dunmore, Airth, Stirling.

James changes his name sometime later to James Mowat (shown on marriage certificate) and marries Jane Smart (b 5 Jan 1859) on 8 Oct 1880 at Ladybank, Collessie, Fife.

James and Jane are my wife's Great grandparents.

Any clues to Margaret's whereabouts after 1st August 1859 would be most helpful!

I tried this before but for some reason the topic was locked and no one could reply.
If the same happens again please PM me so I can get it fixed.

Cheers,
