Europe / Presta family from Sicily, Italy
« on: Saturday 16 February 19 17:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I've been trying to find Carmino Presta's family.

On the Canadian Census it mentions that he was a Southern Italian.

Can you offer any suggestions on how to find this man's family?

His father was named Giuseppe/Joseph.

His name is at times spelled "Presto" or "Presti" but I believe that it was originally Presta and then changed to Press/Prest when he immigrated to Canada in 1890 and naturalized in 1897.  Could it be "Lo Presto", "Lo Presta" or even "Lo Presti"?

The search has been ongoing with no news until I found a detailed obituary in a past newspaper mentioning that his city of birth was Melly/Melle/Male. The previous obituary I found stated that we was born in Sicily. In this new (to me) obituary, I find that the first letters of the city seems squished and had me worried that the name might be wrong. I still believe that he was a Sicilian.

I'm attaching the first obituary that I found years ago.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I am trying to decipher the city of birth for Mr. Presta. He was born in the 1850s (Italy). I cannot find any information about a city named Melly, Italy. Maybe the reporter wrote down what he heard.

I found a town named Male in Trentino, Italy. Maybe the town of Melly has been renamed or maybe I misread the name.

I'd appreciate a fresh pair of eyes. I've attached the original obituary that I had previously found. It seems that the new (to me) newspaper obituary has been distorted when scanned.

Could "Melly" be "Sicily" as per the other obituary?

Thanks for your assistance; I appreciate it!

Down / Emily Johnson (Factory Worker) Trying to find information on where she worked.
« on: Wednesday 28 March 18 16:10 BST (UK)  »
Good morning everyone,

My ancestor Emily Johnson (misspelled Johnston on her death certificate) an orphan who lived with her paternal Aunt Bridget Johnson Byrne and her husband Stephen Byrne at 8 Ashley Street in Banbridge, Co. Down was listed as a “Factory Worker” on her death certificate. She sadly died at 15 on August 1, 1913 in Banbridge after a short life filled with such heartbreaking tragedies.

Where do you suggest I try to locate any information in regards to where she might have worked as a “Factory Worker” in Banbridge? I’m hoping that there might be documents or photos relating to the brief time she spent as a “Factory Worker”.

Many thanks for any help that you can offer me!

Hello everyone,

Any chance that someone can work their magic on this damaged photo?

Edward Patrick Johnson (left) born in 1890 and Robert James Johnson (right) born in 1887. How old do you think they are in this photo?

I've also included an adult photo of the two lads who grew up to be such handsome men.

Many thanks for having a look and helping out if you can!

Hello everyone,

A fresh pair of eyes might help me decipher the names of Robert Johnson's godparents.

Name: Robert
Born: April 14, 1833
Father: James Johnson
Mother: Esther (Lenhan)
Godfather: John (probably) - Might be Thomas (Could his surname be Dunne or Doyle?)
Godmother: Bridget Lenhan (Am I correct?)

I think that I have the correct names for the godparents. Bridget Lenhan is Esther Lenhan's sister and Thomas Dunne is Bridget's husband.

I thought that the second name might be Murtagh Lenhan (Esther and Bridget's brother) but it would be unusual to have two males as godparents.

Could I be completely wrong and the godmother's surname is actually Johnson; maybe Elizabeth Johnson? This would mean that I would have found a potential sibling for James. I know nothing about his parents or siblings.

Thank you for having a look!

Hello everyone, I was gifted these lovely photos and wanted to know if the women in these photos are one in the same? I believe that they are. The single photo of the woman holding flowers is new to my collection and I am quite certain that she is the same lady as in the other photos.

1- Can you tell what year the photos were taken by the clothing they are wearing?
2- Can you give me an approximate age of these people by their clothing? The man was born in 1865/died between 1901-1909 and his wife we believe was born in 1866 and died in 1901.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Hello everyone,  I need a miracle! I am having a hard time deciphering the names in this marriage entry.

Marriage date: October 24,1831
Groom: James D? (The second letter looks like an l then an o but it can't be.)
Bride: Bridget Lenhan (correct)
Witness Male: Murtagh Lenhan (bride's brother) (correct)
Witness Female: ? Heydon (I'm hoping that it's Eliz as in Elizabeth but the first letter looks like an L or F).

What does everyone think?

Thank you for taking the time to look! I am at my wit's end.

Your assistance is always appreciated.

I am going mad trying to figure out the surname of Elizabeth's Hayden's mother Elizabeth. I came up with Hotchkiss but I have no idea if this is correct. The daughter was born in Laois, Ireland and I've been searching for surnames from that area in the hopes of making a match. I believe her father's name is William Heydon and that her sponsors are William or M. Donahue and B. Heydon. Can someone please have a look and see what names you can decipher? I cannot decipher the last name of the sentence either. I'm stepping back from looking at this document. Thank you for taking the time to read my message and trying to help me!
