Ireland / Age given as Minor on Marriage cert
« on: Friday 20 February 09 23:27 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help?

My GGGgrandmother is listed as a minor on her marriage certificate. Do all Irish marriage certificates from the 1800's only list Full age or Minor? What does minor mean?

Many Thanks

Other Countries / District Commissioner - Bengal, India ~1900
« on: Monday 09 February 09 21:54 GMT (UK)  »
I have just posted a photo on this site, and it has been suggested that my ancestor may have been a district commissioner in India (possibly Bengal) between 1899 - 1910.

I have tried FIBIS and found no mention. Can anyone else suggest any other reference sites that might help?

thanks

Armed Forces / Newcastle Calvary, Artillary & Infantry 1841 Census
« on: Wednesday 04 February 09 20:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Just found my GGGgrandfather on the 1841 census at a military barracks in Newcastle upon Tyne. The regiment is listed as the Newcastle Calvary, Artillary & Infantry. Anyone have information on this regiment?

For info his son was a Sergeant in the 17th Regiment of Foot which was amalgamated into what is now the Royal Anglian.

Tried Google and found zip of any use.

Thanks
