Hi folks,

I'm needing help find an approximate decade for this family photograph for a friend of mine.  It is supposed that it was taken in the Orange Free State colony (before the Boer war) of an Afrikaner family (JOUBERT).

Any ideas most welcome,
Thanks.

Surrey Lookup Requests / Croydon 1920 - 1950 directory lookup
« on: Sunday 03 October 10 19:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,

I am hoping someone can help me with a lookup in a Croydon directory for :
Frederick LEACH, a tailor in Tamworth Road, Croydon.
I have found him, with his family in the 1911 census, as well as the 1910 Kelly's directory.  I am trying to trace where he might have died and therefore whether his is still in Croydon, as a tailor, after 1910.

Thank you in advance.

Waterford / Tallow - Birth or Catholic baptism records?
« on: Friday 27 March 09 12:29 GMT (UK)  »
Good afternoon everyone,

I'd appreciate any help or pointers for the following query:

Another board member has very kindly found a marriage record in Jersey for an ancestor of mine, which recorded that she was born in about 1821 in Tallow, Waterford.  The family would have been Catholic and her father's name was John.

There is something of a puzzle to this though :
Later records in the Cape Colony, have her recorded as Mary CAPLES, but the marriage record from Jersey shows her surname as KEPLISS.  She was not literate at the time and one might be able to explain the difference to accents/pronunciation/maybe a french speaking official in Jersey.

I'd very much like to try and trace a birth or baptism record for Mary in the Tallow civil records or Church baptsim records, and would need to be on the lookout for either of the surnames.  Any advice would be most welcome.

best wishes

South Africa / KAB Death Notice lookup for children listed
« on: Thursday 26 March 09 10:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I'd love to be able to help a rootsweb list member discount or prove a theory and to that end would be so grateful if a cape town resident could maybe do a lookup for the children listed on the following Death Notice :

David HANNAY
ref : KAB vol 1/1/65 Ref 6343
starting : 1892

David was married to Louisa FEATHERSTONE and i'd love to know whether an Angus HANNAY is listed as one of their children.

Good afternoon everyone,

Would any Jersey residents be able to tell me whether the parishes of St Marys & St Peters and maybe also St Thomas have cemetaries and how one might go about requesting a lookup.

Thanks in advance.

Lanarkshire / Have 3 days in Glasgow - pointers needed
« on: Sunday 15 July 07 11:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,

I've got a 3 day break coming up and i've booked a trip to Glasgow (family think i'm nuts to spend my kid-free time chasing ancestors!)
and i was wondering what would be the most expediant way to find where some folks might be buried in Glasgow.

I have the death certs. off Scotlandpeople and was wondering whether anyone knew of any indexes available at the Mitchell or elsewhere,  pointing to where i might find the graves.

Any info on using the Mitchell archives would also be received most gratefully.

cheers
Leanne
