Midlothian / Marshall Hume, Dentist in Edinburgh
« on: Sunday 06 December 09 16:36 GMT (UK)  »
My father's Uncle Marshall was James Marshall Hume 1887-1962 the son of Thomas Hume, Master Plumber and his second wife Elizabeth Cooper.

Uncle Marshall was a Dentist in Cambridge Street Edinburgh and he married Elsie May Bruce in 1914. They had two children Elspeth Hume and Thomas Hume. Thomas Hume married a lady called Winnie.

I am researching my family tree but my side of the family has lost touch with Uncle Marshall's descendants. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has them in their family tree or anyone with information about them.

Norfolk / Cromer War Memorial
« on: Sunday 18 October 09 15:03 BST (UK)  »
I am helping my brother in law with his family tree. It is believed that his uncle Andrew Campbell 1925-1943 was in the Royal Navy and that his name appears on the War Memorial at Cromer, Norfolk.

Is there anyone local to the area who could confirm the inscription and/or take a photograph for us?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cambridgeshire / Thomas & Phoebe Webb of Swaffham Bulbeck
« on: Thursday 12 March 09 20:20 GMT (UK)  »
I would like to find Phoebe's maiden name.

I found the christening of Thomas Webb in 1806 at Swaffham Bulbeck in the Cambridgeshire FHS website Baptism Index but because I do not know Phoebe's maiden name I cannot search the Baptism Index for her.

In the 1851 Census they are living in Swaffham Bulbeck and Phoebe is said to be aged 43 which would put her year of birth c1808 and she was said to have been born in Swaffham Bulbeck.

Their eldest child George Webb was christened in 1832 in Swaffham Bulbeck according to the Baptism Index. I am guessing his parents Thomas and Phoebe may have been married c1831 but I could not find the marriage in the IGI.

Can anyone help?

Perthshire / "Four Perthshire Families" by Charles Rogers 1887
« on: Monday 09 March 09 11:38 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have - or have access to - this book?

I understand it has a chapter relating to the Constable family. I have a distant connection by marriage to the Constable family and there are branches in Fife and Angus. I am trying to find a connection to the Constables in Perthshire and I am hoping the book will help me.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / St. Pancras Marriage 1803/Birth 1804/5
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 20:38 GMT (UK)  »
In a distant corner of my Scottish family tree sits William Constable born 1771 in Cupar Fife. He was a Jeweller/Silversmith/Clockmaker in Dundee and died there in 1833.

However there is a handwritten family tree produced c1910 which refers to his first wife "Betsy Woodward Hants". The writing is not clear and I am not certain about the word Hants which may of course refer to Hampshire.

It goes on to refer to his second wife Margaret McRitchie who was said to have been born in Dunkeld Perthshire and states they were married at St Pancras Church London 2 October 1803.

I discovered burial records in Dundee which refer to their daughter Ann Constable as being born at St Pancras London. I found a book on Scottish Clockmakers which suggests William Constable was in Dundee c1806 so I am guessing Ann Constable was born c1804/5.

Has the Old Parish Register for St Pancras for this period survived? Does anyone have access to it to look up and confirm this marriage and birth? Apart from the names and dates does the Register include any reference to status such as single or widower or occupation of the parties?

I am guessing William was in London to learn his trade but I am somewhat surprised that Margaret was in London and they did not marry in Scotland so any additional information would be very helpful.

Nottinghamshire / Austerfield Murder 1828
« on: Friday 13 February 09 12:25 GMT (UK)  »
Austerfield is a village near Doncaster and in 1828 John Dyon was murdered by his brother and nephew who were convicted and executed at York Castle.

I am making enquiries at York Reference Library but I wonder if there is anyone in the area who knows the story or can tell me if there is an MI to John Dyon at Austerfield?
