Can anyone help me find information about Captain Sir Harry Heron who, according to a newspaper article in 1804, was given the rank of rear admiral when he was placed on the retired list of captains in 1804. I believe he died in 1819 but not sure of anything else

Anglesey Lookup Requests / Anthony Belt died in Royal Charter disaster
« on: Thursday 05 September 13 18:06 BST (UK)  »
I am researching the family of Anthony Belt who died in the shipwreck of the Royal Charter off the coast of Dulas, Anglesey North Wales,

Anthony has a tomb in the churchyard of St Miahangel, Llanerchymedd, Anglesey. However his burial record shows him buried at Penrhoslligwy, Anglesey, about 5 miles away, which is where many of the unidentified bodies were buried.

Can anyone help me to find out what might have happened

Family History Beginners Board / Ships in 1840's
« on: Monday 06 August 12 19:44 BST (UK)  »
As a result of a previous post I have information on the various ships a person I am researching sailed on. As an apprentice he sailed with The Alpha, (registered in Whitby?) for 6 years from 1843 to 1849. During that time a ship called The Alpha sailed to Tasmania and I have found some information from newspapers etc giving dates etc of arrival at ports between 1843 and 1849. However other information I have showing what I believe to be Port numbers does not tie up with the fact that the Alpha was in Australia during those years.

As you can tell I am not used to deciphering mariners information. How can I determine whether the The Alpha that sailed to Australia was in fact the one William Richardson was travelling on.

Can anyone help me please

The Common Room / Master Mariner
« on: Monday 30 April 12 16:58 BST (UK)  »
I am researching William Richardson, Mariner until 1861 census then Master Mariner on 1871 census. He died before 1881.

He was born in Loftus, Yorkshire, about 1828, and may have been in Whitby in 1851. He was in Liverpool when he married in 1864 and then in Sunderland County Durham until his death.

I have found a website that fits his birth which states that in 1851 he was in Whitby age 23, and also states that he received his Master Mariners certificate in Sunderland in 1866. The Certificate number is C6595. Can anyone help me find more information please

I have tried to visit the churchyard today only to find it completely locked up. I am interested to know if there is any information available about a burial there on 29th January 1857. The lady was called Margaret Riley and lived at the time in Stanhope Street Liverpool. Since returning home I have also found a second burial at Old Haymarket St John June 29 1857also Stanhope Street.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Baptisms and Marriage Sculcoates Yorks
« on: Sunday 22 January 12 15:46 GMT (UK)  »
I would be grateful if anyone could check a baptism at St Mary's Sculcoates and a marriage at St Paul's Sculcoates

The baptism is April 1813, John Richardson son of John Richardson, Cumberland Militia and Ann

( If anyone knows why the Cumberland Militia were in Sculcoates that would also help as John and Ann Richardson were from Northumberland and had returned to Newcastle upon Tyne by 1815 where John was a Stenciler)

The marriage was 2nd Qtr 1871 between Tom Wilson and Ann Keyworth. Tom was an engineer.

Thank you

Family History Beginners Board / New Gray Street Sunderland
« on: Thursday 03 March 11 17:10 GMT (UK)  »
My Gt Gt Grandfather died of consumption in New Grey Street Sunderland, despite the fact that he lived in Deptford (he was landlord of the Shoulder of Mutton at the time) Was there an infirmary or some special place in that street for people with consumption? The person present at his death was Jane Smith who I cannot connect to the family, I am assuming she may have been a nurse.

Can anyone help please
