Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to find out under what Christian name Keren Chambers was baptised at Yoxford in about 1785. Later in life, she is recorded as having the Christian name Kerenhappuch which might have been derived from this name "Keren Hope Chambers Ashford."

I would just like to know what her entry in the baptismal register says and, of course, I don't have access to that record. Thank you for any assistance in this matter.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / DOROTHY NAYLOR of Well and/or Snape
« on: Saturday 29 April 23 08:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

Although I'm heading up to Northallerton next week, it would save me some time if somebody would be kind enough to do a look-up for the possible death of Dorothy Naylor. A child Jane was born in 1828 in the parish of either Well or Snape. After this date, Dorothy disappears from the records I have been able to consult - mainly the census records. I think that she might have passed away some time between 1828 and 1841. It would be much appreciated if someone could have a look for her burial record at Well or Snape or an adjoining parish. Her maiden name was Hewson.  :)

Derbyshire / Thomas HANDLEY and his two wives
« on: Friday 29 July 22 16:46 BST (UK)  »
It would be much appreciated if someone could look up the Brassington or Ashbourne marriage registers for a marriage between Thomas Handley and Rachel XXXXXXXX. This probably occurred in about 1824. Rachel died in about 1844 and Thomas married again to Ann Walton in AMJ 1845 Ashbourne. Exact date would be useful. Many thanks.
(Headstone to Thomas and Ann in Brassington churchyard which I hope to visit before the end of the year.)

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Marriage of John Henniker and Anne Major in 1746
« on: Wednesday 15 September 21 11:09 BST (UK)  »
I am mystified by records I have seen on FindMyPast and The Genealogist which say that this couple were married in St. Paul's Cathedral. I really need to see the entries to see the word "Cathedral" because I was under the impression that they were married at St. Paul's Shadwell. The alternative is a distinct possibility because Anne's father John Major lived within the City of London (Savage Gardens next to Trinity House) and it was customary for many marriages to take place in the bride's parish. Please could someone help me with this query. Many thanks.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / SAMUEL RAY of WORLINGWORTH marriage to Mary ???? circa 1675
« on: Monday 16 November 20 16:34 GMT (UK)  »
This is a marriage for which a number of people have searched for many years. No-one knows the surname of this lady who married Samuel Ray (1656-1738), Grocer of the Parish, and who are both interred under a brick tomb in our churchyard. There are no clues as to her surname in the children's Christian middle names - none given.

I have just been informed that the firstborn son William (who attended Camb. Uni.) was born/baptised in Attleborough, Norfolk which confirms my suspicions that Samuel probably married outside of Suffolk.

I'm hoping that someone might be able to look for a marriage for Samuel Ray in Attleborough in about 1675. It is also possible that the marriage might have occurred in a surrounding parish or even in Norwich.

Thanks for any help in this matter.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / John Adkin b 1796 and Loughborough Lanes
« on: Saturday 13 June 20 09:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone, Apologies for returning to Adkin genealogy but I would like someone to confirm John Adkin's baptism in Shepshed on 16th Oct 1796 and who his parents were. Also could someone explain why in the 1851 census, his birthplace is given as Loughborough Lanes (not Leics). Where was this and was it part of the ecclesiastical parish of Shepshed?

Many thanks and stay safe.
Lovely weather today but.........

Suffolk / William ALDOUS of Bedfield Hall
« on: Saturday 19 October 19 17:04 BST (UK)  »
I have some family history notes which tell me that William married Mary Ann Gooderham in Charsfield on May 30th 1819. As she came from Laxfield, I suspect that the marriage might have taken place at Cratfield. I also think that her maiden name was PIPE and she had already been married once. If anyone has the records to hand, I would be grateful if someone could throw some light on this - perhaps on the original register entry for the marriage it describes her as a widow?

Unfortunately I'm not able to visit the SRO any time soon. Many thanks in advance.

Could someone please find the baptismal details for Ann and Elizabeth Major, daughters of John Major and his wife Elizabeth (nee DALE)? Any other infants recorded would be useful as well. I'm not sure exactly where they were baptised but BRIDLINGTON would be a strong favourite followed by SCARBOROUGH.

John Major came to Suffolk after a successful period in his life as an iron ore importer. He was also an importer of timber etc from the Baltic and became an MP in 1761. He had property in London, Thornham, Worlingworth and East Grinstead and in 1767 his daughter Elizabeth married the 2nd Duke of Chandos - that must have cost him a few bob in the dowry!

Many thanks.
