Canada / Robert Mackie Jamaica, Forres,Toronto
« on: Friday 07 February 14 09:37 GMT (UK)  »
Robert (Roy) Mackie was born in Jamaica 1808, went to Forres Scotland, home of his father William Mackie.  Family document tells that he went to Canada.
It is thought that he married Angeline Gilbert in Toronto in 1838.
I have no further information about Robert.
Is someone able to look up this marriage record please?  It may confirm the names of his parents?

Europe / Belgium-Waldron/Reichenbach
« on: Thursday 05 December 13 08:56 GMT (UK)  »
Elizabeth King Waldron/Reichenbach born 1892 Sydney Australia.
Married Hermann Reichenbach 1914 Nairobi.
Their daughter Elizabeth King Reichenbach born 1915 Nairobi, British East Africa.
Elizabeth and her daughter last heard of in Ostend Belgium 1950.
I am searching for any records that may help me discover where they lived after 1950, or if/when they married or died.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Dinah or Diana TAPPER
« on: Monday 26 March 12 10:55 BST (UK)  »
Dinah/Diana Sarah TAPPER gave birth to Florence Alice May TAPPER/STILLING, on 12 Dec 1868 at Dunedin,  Reg.  1869/8956.
I have not been able to find any further information about Dinah or her daughter Florence via Papers Past or NZ BDM records.
The father of baby Florence was Thomas STILLING, although no marriage record has been found and they did not stay together.
There are numerous Tapper references in Papers Past,  and none of them seem to link with Dinah/Diana.
Can anyone offer suggestions as to how I can trace Dinah after the birth of her daughter?
Maybe she left New Zealand using the name Tapper or Stilling.
Thankyou.

Australia / Marriage certificate, New Caledonia
« on: Monday 17 October 11 10:24 BST (UK)  »
Where do I obtain a copy of a marriage certificate in Noumea, New Caledonia?   I have the exact date in 1884.  The groom was from Austria, the bride was born in St Kilda Melbourne.
Several requests have not produced results - I must not have the correct address.

Cambridgeshire / CRISP - Cambridgeshire
« on: Sunday 21 August 11 01:18 BST (UK)  »
Are there any CRISP families living in the Soham area, Cambridgeshire?
My Crisp ancestors came from Soham to Australia in 1955.  Maybe some of the descendants of their relatives are still in the area.

South Africa / Elands River, Kameelpoort
« on: Wednesday 17 August 11 07:19 BST (UK)  »
My query is geographical, regarding the Elands River.  Where is its source?  I believe it flows easterly and becomes a tributary of the Crocodile River in Mpumalanga Province.
At the west of Pretoria it flows near the site of the 1900 Elands River seige (Boer War), then my map seems to show that it flows through Pretoria, before heading NE then east.

Also, I am trying to confirm the location of Kameelpoort Elands River where my great-uncle was reported to have been killed in September 1900.  I have found such a place on one map, east of Rust de Winter, which is NE of Pretoria.  I am wondering if that is the name of a farm, or a small village or just a locality.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this area east of Rust de Winter?  Perhaps there is a farm still known as Kameelpoort?
Cheers,  HBelle

South Africa / Boer War - Australian prisoners
« on: Wednesday 29 September 10 22:54 BST (UK)  »
My great uncle (Australian) was killed during the Boer War, 2 September 1900, at Kameel Poort Elands River.   That was the recorded place and date.  However, he was reported missing for a couple of weeks, and I suspect the date was an estimate.  Perhaps he was taken prisoner - I am trying to find out.
He was part of the NSW Citizens Bushmen.  After the seige at Elands River his squadron was on a train en route to Pretoria on 2 September, so it is a mystery as to why he was not with them at that time.
I have not been able to find any records of Australians taken prisoner.
