Down / Waddel / McKee marriage 1846 Greyabbey
« on: Tuesday 09 June 09 12:47 BST (UK)  »

William Waddel (or Waddle) and Ann McKee (or McKie) were married 21st November 1846 in the first Presbyterian meeting house in Greyabbey.
Both of them resided in Greyabbey.

William was full age. His father was Andrew Waddel, a Weaver, and his mother was Mary Clarke.

Ann was 18. Her father was William McKee, a labourer,  and her mother was Agnes Harrison.

If any kind reader can help me to find the baptism or marriage of any of the parents or siblings of William Waddel and Ann McKee I will be very grateful.

Thanks.
Eve

Meath / Richard Dowling born Co.Meath c1835
« on: Thursday 04 June 09 23:01 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find anything about my great-grandfather Richard Dowling. He was a bookbinder.
He married Mary Brady about 1862.

I don't know when he left Meath but as far as I know all his children were born in Dublin.

The only baptism I can find is for a Richard Dowling in Ardcath, Co. Meath, parents Patrick Dowling and Jane Dempsy but I don't know if this is my ancestor.

 Can anyone help please.

Tipperary / Fogarty and Ryan of Nenagh.
« on: Saturday 23 May 09 21:29 BST (UK)  »
My great-grandfather was Patrick Fogarty born 1858 son of Denis Fogarty and Anne Hayes.

Patrick Fogarty married Mary Ryan born 1861 daughter of Philip Ryan and Margaret Ryan. The marriage took place in Roscrea Church in 1886.

Patrick and Mary (Ryan) Fogarty had four children,
  MaryAnne 1886,
 Ellen 1887,
 Denis 1889
Philip 1890.

Mary died in 1891 and Patrick Fogarty married another Mary whose name I am not sure of, Carton or Cartron or Curtin or something similar.

Patrick Fogarty and his second wife had the following children. I don't know all the dates.

Margaret Mary  (Peggy) baptised 1893 in Nenagh.
Patrick John  (Pakie)  baptised 1895
Catherine (Kitty)  baptised 1896
Sara baptised 1898
Bridget Mary baptised 1900
Susie
Jack
Christopher  baptised 1905
Tess
Nicholas
Larry.

Patrick Fogarty's eldest child MaryAnne was my grandmother but I know nothing of her brothers and sisters.

Does any reader know what became of them?  There must be some of their descendants living in or around Nenagh and I would love to get in touch with any of them.

Dublin / Margaret Brady born Dublin c1852
« on: Thursday 14 May 09 22:17 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me to find out something about the family of Margaret Brady born in Dublin 1851-1854.

Her first marriage was in the pro-Cathedral Dublin Sept 1868 to William Henderson, a painter.

The address on the marriage cert for both of them is Grenville Lane. Williams' father is John Henderson, pawnbroker and Margarets' father is William Brady a labourer

Margarets' husband died soon after the marriage and she appears in the 1871 census in Kensington London as a widow aged 19 a servant.

She married James Waddell in Kensington in November 1878.

James and Margaret moved to Dublin sometime before their first child was born in 1879.
Four more children were born in Dublin and James died in Dublin in 1891.

With the help of some wonderful people on Rootschat I have found the names of James' parents and now I would like to know more about Margaret.

If anybody reading this story can link it with their family it would be much appreciated.

London and Middlesex / Marriage of Margaret Brady and ? Henderson
« on: Friday 17 April 09 22:46 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters.

I am hoping that somebody can help me to find the marriage of Margaret Brady to a man with the surname Henderson.

Margaret was born in Dublin and I have tried without success to get a certificate in Ireland, so think possibly she was married in London.

Mr Henderson died shortly after the marriage, and she later married James Waddle in Kensington in 1878 at the age of 25.

I don't know when she married Henderson.

Eve.

Dublin / Bridget Dowling Hitler
« on: Wednesday 01 April 09 20:32 BST (UK)  »
I heard some years ago that a relative married a half-brother of Adolph Hitler.
Her name was Bridget Dowling born about 1892 in Dublin.
Bridget met Alois Hitler when he was working as a waiter in the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin. They eloped to London where they married in June 1910.
Bridget was 18 and Alois was 27

Their son William Patrick Hitler was born in 1911.

If any reader knows who were the parents or siblings of Bridgets' father William Dowling, I will be very interested.

Ayrshire / James Waddell, Ayrshire *completed*
« on: Tuesday 24 February 09 22:09 GMT (UK)  »
The story in my family is that my great-grandfather James Waddell met his wife, Margaret Brady in London. James was Presbyterian, from Ayrshire, and Margaret was a Catholic from Dublin. James was a dispatch rider in the Scots Guards, and Margaret was a professional cook. James became a Catholic and his family in Scotland disowned him.
There is no record of their marriage in Ireland, and if they were married in London I can't find it.
All their children were born in Dublin, Ireland, the eldest about early 1880
James died in Dublin in 1891 aged 36, which puts his birth date about 1855
I have no idea who were the parents of either James or Margaret.
Margaret appears in the 1911 census in Dublin as a widow aged 57, with 4 of her 5 children, and a grandson.
Margaret later moved to London and died there at about 90 years old.
Can any kind person help me to find the parents of James?
