Heraldry Crests and Coats of Arms / Deciphering Family Crest of sugar nips
« on: Friday 16 June 17 21:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have these sugar nips dating London 1875. On the end of them, is an engraving from a Coat of Arms.
I know this is probably a long shot, but does anyone out there recognise it?
I have done some googling, but cant seem to find it.
We were told it was someone of importance who had these.
I can see a crown, lions paw/fist holding a club. Or is it a bears paw?
Please tell me what you can see, any help/thoughts much appreciated x

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Date please if possible
« on: Sunday 08 March 09 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone please date my Nan? On the back of the photograph is written "mum stokes" and indicated herself "mrs Harding" with a cross above her head. Any chance that the numbers on the back of it would tell me anything about the photograph?

Cheshire / Shawheath union workhouse
« on: Thursday 05 March 09 14:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone tell me where the records are kept for the ShawHeath Union Workhouse please? and what if anything, they can tell me about my relative?
I contacted Stockport Library and they dont have the admission records there for the years 1912-1917.
My Great Grandma died there, and she had a daughter born 1911. I would like to know if my Nan was also in the workhouse with her when she died in 1917.
Im also on the track of Nantwich Union workhouse records as my Great Great Grandma also died in that one along with 3 of her babies.

This one is of my great grandfather, and i presume he is at a meeting for the cheshire yeomanry (although not sure on this). He is 4th from the left and is the only photograph i have of him. There is nothing on the back of it.

This one is on a plate glass, not sure if it was a negative or stained glass. No idea who the girl is or when it was taken, i found it amongst by nan's belongings.
Any ideas on either of the photographs please??

Thanks in advance

The Common Room / Stocktons of bunbury
« on: Monday 16 February 09 11:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
Ive been researching my ancestors for over 3 years now, and have amassed a great deal of information. But... Im stuck on 1 person, Matilda Bull (nee stockton) born 1854 in bunbury.
Matilda married william Bull (died 1887), and had 5 children that i have found. Emily b1884, (married Harry Stokes), John b1879, Maud and Lucy b1890(both died in infancy in workhouse) and lilian b1892(also died in workhouse in infancy). Now Matilda went onto marry Frank Evenson in 1894 at st pauls, crewe. The thing is, i can not find any death registry for Matilda anywhere.
I have alot of information on the Stocktons/Stokes/Bull families, as they are my great grandparents, and i am willing to help anyone who needs it, but if anyone could help me fill in some missing gaps, i would be extrememly grateful.
Thanks
